Brain Teasers
Weighs and Means
In my physical manifestation, my figure is of a neutral hue.
As a calculation, one of me is almost certainly less than half of you.
On your face, I am motionless and mute.
To describe the cold, I am complete and absolute.
Of proximity, I am always of a close pitch.
For punishment, I taunt you even after I've put you in your ditch.

Answer
A stone. As a measurement of weight, a stone is equal to 14 pounds, or about 6.35 grams.
In phrase, something might be described as "stone-faced", "stone cold", or only a "stone's throw" away.
A public stoning, which is already a cruel way to die, might seem even more imprudent when you consider its victims are laid to rest underneath a headSTONE.
The title is both a hint and a pun and so kills two birds with one stone.

I came up with Zero. Regarding its physical manifestation, a figure of a neutral hue, zero is a figure, more nondescript or "neutral" than distinctive 7's or 3's, etc. I don't know why a stone would be neutral, but it weighs 6.35 kilograms, not grams.
A zero is less than half of any positive number. On a clock face, it is motionless and mute. Absolute Zero is how we describe complete and absolute cold. Were these clues designed to purposely throw us off the track?
I wasn't sure about the last clues, there's a zero thrust pitch in aerodynamics, and maybe the figure in the ditch is now a nothing, or zero. But I did think the answer was Zero, absolutely.

Not a bad guess. "Neutral hue" refers to the grayish color of a real stone, and "physical manifestation" gives hint that the object exists as a tangible substance, while the later clues describe its utility in common expressions. The use of "you" is also consistent throughout to refer to a person.
None of the clues were designed to be deliberately misleading. Though I think you could find many words that statisfy a handful of the clues, all told, they demonstrate the wide application we give the word "stone" in the English language.

Well that certainly was a stretch. I think of a stone as a rock and it comes in many sizes. Stoned face implies an expression. To me this one was way off the beaten path and not to my liking at all. Just my opinion to which I am entitled. Your posting was appreciated though, or we would not have anything to cheer or gripe about, so thank you!
On a scale of 1 to 10 I give this a big 0. First how many stones weigh 14 lbs ? This was by far a bad attempt as a teaser. That's my opinion !!!
zero was my answer also!
I agree completely with Babe. However, it was nice to have a new teaser, even if I didn't like it very much.
Not my favorite either but it is nice to see something new.
For the poster who was wondering about a stone weighing 14 pounds. Stone is an European unit of mass that is equal to 14 pounds.

Very tough riddle, but I can not argue with anything in the explanation. All the clues were there if you could make the intuitive leap. Many different references, all excellent. Nicely done, indeed! You stumped me.
