An Ancient King
Riddle
Riddles are little poems or phrases that pose a question that needs answering. Riddles frequently rhyme, but this is not a requirement.Riddle
Note: The structure of this riddle is modeled after those written in old English, where alliteration takes center stage just as much as rhyme.
I am a giant, an ancient king
With many a jewel by my neck are hanging
Then a monster comes, a heartless thief.
The bite so bitter brings me grief.
It takes my treasure, my riches untold,
My rubies, my emeralds, my silver, my gold.
What am I?

A very nice riddle. Congratulations on your first teaser - I hope to see more!
Thank you so much! I actually wrote this about 4 years ago when I was in high school. I decided to dig it up and post it.
Very nice. I would never have deduced the answer. I took it much too literally.
This is wonderful creative writing. This would fit equally well on a poetry site.

A pharoh
It couldn't be a pharaoh, the bite that brings grief wouldn't make sense then.
The poetry was great, but I think it was a bit far-fetched. Sorry, better luck next time.
I thought it was a Dragon and it was just slayed by a warrior with an arrow or a sword. I think it's a little too vague for one answer and the idea of a tree and winter isn't even hinted at in the riddle itself.
Nicely written, but too broad & cryptic for me, sorry!
I thought a mountain...being mined for treasure. Nice teaser.
Fun, cleverly written teaser. I had no idea what the answer was and would never have thought of a tree.
Upon seeing this again after three years, I like it even more. I find it curious tht everyone says they would never have thought of a tree as the answer, yet the current difficulty is only 2.33. This is wonderfully abstract. Once you know the answer, the allusions are clear. Terrific writing.
I didn't really like it. I don't see how the jewels are around the neck. In the hair, maybe, but around the neck is too much of a stretch for me. And I'm good w/ the rubies, emeralds and gold, as those are the colors of leaves, but silver doesn't make sense to me.
I like when it's an abstract reference that after you see the answer you get an "ahh", but this was too off for me.
