Brain Teasers
Forgery....
Situation
Situation puzzles (sometimes called lateral thinking puzzles) are ones where you need to ask lots of yes or no questions to figure out what happened in the situation. These are good puzzles for groups where one person knows the puzzle and answers the questions.Situation
A man builds a machine which he feeds coloured paper. Out of the other side comes $100 notes. He sold them to someone. Experts cannot tell them from real ones. How does he do it and why does he sell the machine instead of using it himself?
Hint
The man sold the machine to a crook. The crook will not be rich.
Answer
It was a confidence trickster (con man) who sold the machine. He claimed to the crook that it will generate perfect forgeries. He demonstrates it by feeding it green paper. But this green paper is actually genuine $100 notes covered in thick green coloring. The machine simply removes the green coloring.Hide Hint Show Hint Hide Answer Show Answer

I was looking at some other "Situation" teasers. This is Exceptionally good. Entertaining even.
I thought the clues were impossibly misleading. Coloured paper was fed in, not real currency. Experts could not tell them from real ones. So this implies they were not real ones. I think a better answer is that the man is a manufacturer of minting equipment which he sells to the government to do the printing of their money.
wouldn't the person buying the machine notice the THICK green covering on the paper?
Hey Jimbo:
"But this green paper is ACTUALLY GENUINE $1000 NOTES covered in thick green coloring. The machine simply removes the green coloring"

[$100 notes], but you get my point.
Wow!?

Well, this stumped me!But then again...ALOT of things stump ME!
Good teaser. I wish I could find a REAL money machine - it would be time to have some serious fun! Or even a money tree! By the way, you got me. I had to look at the answer!
i'm with jimbo - by saying that experts can't differentiate the end product from "real" notes implies that the end product are *not* real notes.
As to what the question actually asks: how does he do it? (he's an incredibly good machine maker and can actually make a machine that mints money as well as a minting machine would make real money.) why does he sell it rather than keep it himself? (he's got a yellow backbone and is too scared of being caught with the machine and it's fake money - at least if he sells it he has real money without the hassle of worrying about being caught).
