I agree snappy. Our supermarket (of course they all claim to have the lowest prices) seems to raise the prices every week. Each time I go, I see an increase in the prices - sometimes by only 5 cents, but other times much more.

Another trick they are using is to lower the price on an item (example frozen burritos) to make you feel like you are getting a good deal only to realize that the package contains less than the previous number of items. After a week or two, then the price goes back up to where it was or higher so you are now paying more for less! Same thing applies to ounces.

The economy is already such a mess that it seems everyone is trying to take advantage of everyone else. Sad...

Howdy! I'm just so proud to be here! As Minnie Pearl used to say - tis good old Grayma V here. I know some will ask WHO? Others - where you been? Well I am out of the Wrinkle Dorm now and living with my daughter and her three young boys. Family lives seem to be all upturned all around the family and I am too old to do much about it, but so far it has been cheaper living here than paying my entire SS check to the nursing home. Glad I didn't smoke as I wouldn't have had enough left over for even a pack of cigarettes.

Yes the economy is so bad my daughter had to quite college and get a paying job to keep going. I decided by living with her it would free up my money to help my family in their financial struggles. She got a job at our local factory BD - syringes and diabetic supplies, as an inspector starting at $15 an hour. And I raised 3 of mine on $300 a month before taxes. Sure you could buy gas for 35 cents a gallon, but . . .
I know I can remember how I used to cut corners so I could pay my utilities and still have money for food. Sorry all you nay sayers, I worked for my money and never used food stamps or Medicaid. At $300 or less a month and 3 kids, I made to much money to qualify. WOW, times have changed. I have no idea where my kids can cut corners now to even keep all the bills paid each month. It has become a constant futile attempt at robbing Peter to pay Paul. Darned, I almost tried to say pay Pal. Sorry Paladin if you are around, no one is trying to pay you. LOL

Well let's see, The Spider, Evita, celtichero, snowmonster, fishmed, Steve1973, chunnie, 4 deemo, MarcM1098, and Chico387 on the current users online, I recognize. I've missed Braingle. Hope to do better about logging on now that I am back in the dog eat dog world. The Wrinkle Dorm was pretty structured for me, but of course I was just pretty ill. Oh yes, for those of you who have asked about Shawn, I just talked to him a couple days ago and he is better. Doing quite a bit of drawing his neat tight drawings. Rather good for someone who really has limited sight. Perhaps I could get him to post some of his better ones here on our old home base. Hugs to all ~ Grayma V

Welcome back V... glad to see you again! You were missed. Living with the family seems to be a good idea, I know none of us want to be a burden on our family... but as long as I am able to take care of myself mostly, I want to be in my own home or with my family somehow.

Welcome back Grayma! It's been too long since you've been here and you have really been missed. I'm happy to hear that you are living with your daughter and not alone. Not only does it help financially, but also for support and family companionship.

Oh thank all of you for your kind words. And as you can see, I am still the verbose old grayma.

Our house is all busy and excited about Halloween. The boys are 12, 9, and 3 and they got their costumes last Friday night and they have tried them on now at least a dozen times. I told them they would have them worn out before the 31st if they weren't careful. Of course, the 12 year old just got a mask and a machete. "I'm just going to help take the boys around so I had to have a mask." Yeah, ok, if you say so. It is hard changing from a little boy to a responsible young man, but he is doing pretty well.

There is a cold, northwest wind whipping around the building this morning, and the leaves that were so pretty on the trees are like a snow storm, flying everywhere. Another changing of the seasons. The change from the heat to cooler temps and the color show that the trees give, I find very pleasant, but from here on until that one quiet morning when one can, from the warmth of your home, survey the pristine beauty of the world covered by gently fallen snow makes me understand why many animals hibernate. Memories of sledding and freezing my tail end off will make me smile, but the older I get the more my body asks, "How could you?"

Enjoy the day folks and smile - it looks better from this >side. Hugs

Hey Fish. Same to you, but it is nice to be back. It was sort of a rough year physically. Had my heart take off on me after they did an MRI to check for blood clots in my lungs. The Xrays had not shown any pneumonia and I was unable to breathe so they were looking for clots as I had had them before. On board the ambulance to see my lung specialist, but when we got to the hospital I wound up on the cardiac wing and didn't know why. Oh my heart rate was only 150 a minute and they had trouble getting it to go below that. Finally they got it slowed a bit and decided to do a heart scan and since my son is in complete kidney failure and I have had some bit of a problem with them they also did a kidney scan. Now I m talking the cute little camera that goes in the groin and then wherever the doctor guides it. Told them it would do no good to go toward the north end of me a there was nothing there anyhow.

They found a blood clot in my heart - immediate Coumadin to dissolve it. Wanted me to have a complete work up by what they called the best electrician in the state of Nebraska. Wanted me to have an oblation (sp) which is where they go up from the groin with one wire and down the carotid artery in you neck with another, meet in the heart and actually burn to kill the part of my heart that is causing it to skip beats and run fowl all the time. After about 3 hours with the specialist he told my family that my lungs were not strong enough to undergo a 5 to 7 hour surgery. So instead a month later I returned to Omaha and they did a cardiac conversion on me. I now have a very, very slow heart rate so I am not real peppy. And don't dare get a cut or injury or I could bleed out before we could get it stopped. My last session of being in the Wrinkle Dorm was due to blood poisoning and they wound up giving me five pints of blood. So the old grey mare, she ain't what she used to be, but my mind still clicks most of the time. I am looking forward to a warm quiet winter. Hugs to all.

Wow, Vlerma, that IS quite a year! I've missed you and am glad to see you back. I look forward to reading more updates as we go. And thanks for the update on Shawneeo. I miss him too.

In answer to froggygg and Snappy, the shop is still in negotiation. My original location wasn't looking like much of a possibility, and we started the process (my lawyer is reviewing documents now) on another space; but now we have word that there *may* be a shot at my original choice of a location. We'll see. Still hoping to open by February 1.

Thanks Tonjawithaj for the welcome home. I am glad I am well enough to spend a lot of time on the computer. I also bought myself a kindle so I can lay around and still at least read what is going on. I have found I do miss the Homes, at least SOME of the people. And I loved the country sitting. Having been raised on the farm, and having a wind break just in back of me, I got to see all the wild creatures that used our back lane. We had bunnies, squirrels, all type of birds, including one day three turkeys on parade. Here at my daughters I have entertained myself by sitting on the front porch. counting vehicles, even down to the colors. One day, 5 minutes, 50 vehicles of which 39 were white. Glad I always liked statistics. LOL Told my daughter I was going to apply to the State of Nebraska and sere if they would pay me as a live optical vehicle counter. We live right on Main Street, which is also one of our main highways through town. The other highway is just down at the corner so we also get traffic from there.

Sounds like you have a project in the making with your shop. It is wonderful to see young people starting out into the world of commerce. But you are doing it wisely, with an attorney, so you don't have to worry so much about getting all your i's dotted and your t's crossed. And by not rushing into a location hopefully will give you the best shot at success. Do keep us posted.

Hello my friends! I feel guilty that it's been so long since I've been here. For years I was on here every single day, sometimes for hours, but lately I haven't been on here at all. I won't pretend that I'm going to now be here every day or "more ofz ten", that would be dishonest. It's not that anything specific happened with the site or any one person, I just found some other sites that were interesting and found myself spending more time on them and less and less time on good old Braingle. I do miss my friends that are still on here and the ones that don't check in anymore. I wish you all a HappyThanksgiving, I love all of you! : ) : D 8D

Life... can be so many things... how can anyone ever think they are RIGHT? HAhahahahahahaha!!!!!

Happy Thanksgiving to you and yours shawn... and to everyone else while I am at this!!!!

Sites are only as good as the people who visit them and make them worthwhile... you make this site more enjoyable; so I do hope to see you around as much as possible. In my humble opinion, it seems as if the people who stop by this particular GD discussion topic and post something are pretty special anyway. This is not a game topic, it is discussion... and to discuss things makes people more interactive than just trying to win a game.

Yes, I love playing games... and when I first joined this site, it was to play chess only. Wolf and Boss came into play... and I turned into the world of discussion in the forums because I met several players on a personal level and started to see some people on this site that really were interesting and fun to talk to. It took me about 3 years to come into the forums...I have met a lot of really neat people... that I now call my friend.

Many days I come and go and see little active comments to make my day more enjoyable... but then one day I come in and see some great discussion to make me renew my enjoyment in this site. I think a few, just a few, new games would be nice to build this site back up.

Playing the same games over and over can get old though some are still fun to play; and with the speed of today's computers, a lot of the games like Tetris, PacMan, etc... make them a bit less fun to play because you just can not last as long as you did on an older system. I used to enjoy doing the Caption Game... but that sort of just stopped being updated and there hasn't been a new one in years. I think it either needs to be updated, or removed.

I also stopped playing chess because the way it is set up on this site, you only get credit for winning... and you never lose your position by losing; so people who "buy" a lot of multiple games will alway move up the ranks because they only have to win 2 of every 20 games they bought to get credit - which can happen just because the player you challenged stopped playing (the same goes for checkers, but I guess as an avid chess player, I just never got into checkers). Sure would love to see a change in the way the losses are scored; but I doubt it will happen.

So, don't feel guilty shawn...just keep coming to visit us! All of a sudden I have a craving for some peanuts... I have some, they are in the other room. Thank you!
