Hey so i thought it'd be interesting to find out everyones favourite female singer no matter the genre or decade post about your favourite female singer/ singers here!!
My favourite female artist is Amy Winehouse. Although she had her troubles with substance abuse and alcoholism, i think the talent is undeniable shes influenced me with my own writing and i think she'll keep influencing people for years to come, even people who arent even born yet her voice was so distinctive and she had a true talent. When she stopped her drug taking (she stopped a couple of years before she died) i thought she was going to get well again and get her life back on track, unfortunely it was the alcohol that she couldnt quit hopefully this will put people off drugs and becoming dependant on alcohol though and to get the help they need.
But she will always inspire me with my music
Other favourite female singers for me are Lady Gaga, Emilie Autumn, Florence and the Machine and Alanis Morissette
I will put up another topic at some point about people's favourite male singers of all time and also favourite bands of all time

Hmm. I can't think of too much solo female singers. When I like female singers I generally like groups such as girl groups and idols [this pattern is similar for men, asides from some big names]. Zooey Deschanel is one of the few that comes to mind. Her gentle jazzy voice is lovely. Another I like is Momoi Haruko. A lot of her songs have great energy.
I know of some great ballad-spinning female singers, but I don't know them well enough to call them my favourites.
Oh and I've never heard of them but Flyleaf apparently performed at my old school. Interesting, but I wasn't even there yet. Ha.

I only have one song in my music library by a female artist: Sara Evans. Her voice doesn't bother me as much, and I like the particular song a lot, so...
I find higher pitches irritating. This isn't limited to voices; I also can't stand flutes and soprano saxophones, and can only listen to violins and trumpets for so long before I get a headache. I think I might tolerate female voices more if they'd sing in a lower range and sound more like a man (like that version of "Mack the Knife" where Ella Fitzgerald imitates Louis Armstrong at one point), but then again, I might as well just listen to male artists. There are plenty of those.
I also think the male voice is richer and fuller. My band teacher told me that tone is always number one, and that should also be the case for singing. Females tend to sound too whiny and breathy for my taste. Take Taylor Swift as an example. As much as I like her angst-y, teenage-girl-oriented songs (I don't like to admit that fact, but it's true; her songs are so easy to related to!), her voice bothers me too much for me to listen to her. Unless I'm really miserable about a guy. That's different.
As a general rule, if you audibly inhale while singing, I don't like you.

I like a lot of female singers!
Joan Jett, of course. And Pat Benatar. And Heart. They're all strong females and singers and really paved the road for women in rock music. I respect them as much for the barriers they broke down as for their good music.
As far as more modern ones go, I like Sugarland, Katy Perry, Alexz Johnson...
I also love Lea Michele's voice, even though she doesn't really do solo music.

Adele definitely.. hmm.. other than that I can't think of many. Most of my favourite artists are male. Emily Autumn is pretty good but not one of my favourites.
Edit: The singer from Florence and the machine.

I love florence and the machine, the woman's called florence welch i think florence and the machine is just the singer, not a band, but its very confusing I think the machine is just her backing band, i know she won female solo awards, but never a band award
