Brain Teasers
An Early Walk
Mystery
Mystery teasers are little stories where you need to figure out what happened based on the given clues.Mystery
Mr. Lal was having an early walk. He had just crossed a bridge when he saw a crowd of people. Rushing to them, he found that they were crowding around a dead woman. Lal was a famous detective. He took the case and started his investigation. The woman seemed to have come for an early walk, too. Seeing her handbag lying nearby, Lal ruffled through it and found what he wanted - her identity card. Her name was Lakshmi, and her house was about a ten minute drive away. Her number was also written on her card. Lal phoned the given number.
"Is this Lakshmi's residence?"
"Yes. And I am her husband. What do you want?"
"Sir, your wife is dead."
"What! No way!"
"Sir, come here quickly."
About ten minutes later, a car pulled up. The husband got down, and on seeing the woman, rushed to her and started crying. Lal was about to console him when something flashed in his mind. He quickly had the husband arrested. Can you tell why?

Hint
Did the husband come in time?Answer
The husband had come in the expected ten minutes ("her house was about a ten minute drive away"). In the telephone conversation, Lal had not mentioned where the wife was. But the husband seemed to have known where and had come directly to the spot. This made Lal suspicious.Hide Hint Show Hint Hide Answer Show Answer

1st to comment, good one
nice
pretty easy, but good one!
The detective should have been smart enough to tell the man where to go, it wasn't a plan.
Nice . A fun teaser.
Easy, and good. Great to see Indian names too!
I enjoyed this teaser, it was comfortably easy, not only did the husband not have the direction, but he also responded "My Wife" without having been told the call was about the wife. I agree; diversity is good
Too easy
to easy. but it isn't totally true because she could have told her husband where she was going and with the police there he couldn't miss where the exact spot was.
if i had found out that my spouse was dead, i think i'd say something a little more sentimental than, "what! no way!" nice quiz though.
That was an easy one but still fun. Keep 'em coming! ^_^
lmao how did I not see that one?
So awesome.
So awesome.
The detective never specified where he was. So, therefore, the husband shouldn't have known where to go anyway.
lol nvm I scanned over the answer XD
I FINALLY GOT ONE!!!!!
A bit easy but fun all the same.
Thanks for a fun morning.
Thanks for a fun morning.
I thought it was because Lakshmi was their last name, but he automatically said 'I am her husband', knowing the call was about his wife. Unless the name is only hers.
I actually got this one =] nice!
I like the way this was written - precise and interesting sentences. However, there is one very big weakness, the way I see it. If they were a happily married couple (and there is no evidence to the contrary), it is likely that Mr would know where Mrs took her morning walks - so of course he came directly.
For me, the fact that he took 10 minutes to do a 10 minute drive indicated a lack of concern, which was suspicious. I would have been there in 5!!

the detective just cannot assume that the husband is suspicious because he knows where to find his wife because it is his duty to know where his wife is. The wife could easily just have told him that i'm on my way to bla bla bla for a walk before she left. It might have been her routine. The detective surely needed to know more before he could accurately judge the situation.
What made me suspicious was
"Is this Lakshmi's residence?"
"Yes. And I am her husband."
How did the husband know the detective wanted to talk to MRS Lakshmi?

How do we know that the detective didn't drive?
Knew it!!!
Easy!!
