Thanks Tangerine. The wording is actually correct because the collective value given to 'matters' in the saying is actually passed to 'worse' in the sentence. Eg. You wouldn't say 'Make the dogs dryses' if you were referring to drying wet dogs... It is actually correct to say 'Make the dogs dry'. The same rule applies here. Oh and Bob, no worries with the changes, that's what the ed's are there for and it has probably made my teaser better with a couple of minor nips and tucks.
Although it is easy, at least it is doable. Some of the language teasers on this site are gobbledy-gook. I think the rebus as it stands is correct. There are two "matter"s and they both become "worse".
