Brain Teasers
Passengers on the Train
Trick
Trick brain teasers appear difficult at first, but they have a trick that makes them really easy.Trick
You are driving a train. There are 1,002 people on the train. In Topeka 213 people get off and 194 get on. In Witchita 118 people get off and 46 get on. In Missouri 298 people get off and 7 get on. In Washington 341 get off and 357 get on. Finally, you reach the final destination in New York. After the passenger exchange, you verify the number of passengers left on the train. How many are there?
Answer
None. When you reach your final destination everyone has to get off the train.Hide Answer Show Answer

this is very similar to another teaser i have done. Surely the answer would be 1 because you are still on the train?
wouldn't the driver be in the train when checking for passengers? so the answer would be one, right?
really teased me, this one!!!

I meant to say "passengers" instead of people please forgive me!
No! You will have to live with the shame for the rest of your life

I GOT MY CALCULATOR OUT!!!!!! DUH!!!!!
this is kinda similar to a one i know about a bus... does anyone know it? if not i'll post it
This made me laugh
the answer is really one or more because you have to include ureself, bellboys, and people that clean the train after each ride. if u are on the train the question asks about people not just passengers
wouldn't there be one because you are left?
well that all depends on the type of train you're catching as to whether you have to get off when you reach the final destination - in melbourne (australia, where i live) the trains run on a continual loop, so when they get to the "final destination" as listed on the timetable, they immediately become another train, so the passengers don't actually have to leave the train (unless they want to)
i did get the answer though, well done!
i did get the answer though, well done!
haha, tricky. I almost started calculating myself.
I didn't even bother. I thought this teaser was going to end like this: "okay, now you must tell me, what is the driver's name?" That's a joke my dad used to tell me a LONG time ago...
The train in our place just goes back and forth. After reaching the final destination, it goes back to the other end. So some passengers dont get off upon reaching the end, coz they are taking a round-trip especially on rush hours!
1002: it says "is" meaning present-time.
Never mind, it says are. Still,it's present-time.
