This is considered by some to be the ultimate tool. With its waterproof properties, it was quickly adopted for a specific military application when originally introduced. The US Government also has recommended that all homes have it available. Along with its waterproof properties, it is known for its superior bonding, is heat resistant, and is extremely strong. It is easy to use with no training required, and is widely available in various sizes and colors. NASA thinks so highly of this, it is included on every flight that leaves the launch pad. No home, military unit, or spacecraft should be without it.

Duct Tape.Remember the Dept of Homeland Security warning to purchase duct tape and plastic to help against biological or chemical attacks. And yes, NASA does send up duct tape with every flight. It was useful in the famous troubled Apollo 13 mission, and was credited in part with saving the lives of those astronauts.

That was a good description. I love making things with duct tape and i never knew it ws used for that many important things.
You need to make "this" fit into "here " using nothing but "that"!
If it ain't broke , don't fix it.
If it is broke, grab the Duct Tape!

Great teaser! I didn't get iot because we dont' have Duct Tape at my house... But still, great job!
Good one!
Ever watch the Red Green show? Lots of duct tape humor.
Almost went with velcro, as it was designed for NASA, and meets many of the criteria you mention.

could have gone either with duct tape or velcro untill you mentioned the heat resistant part, ever see velcro melt.....neither have I. Also velcro is very pourous so it isnt water proof by far.....not sure how waterproof duct tape is and I have seen duct tape melt.....but apparently you can use it over a period of a week or so to remove a wart.......go figure.
That one went past me like a NASA rocket ship lol.
LOL.... Did you know that duct tape offers a schloarship if u wear a duct tape dress/tux to prom??? Being from alabama i must say that this teaser is true, duct tape is a wonderful thing... even made a microphone stand out of it.
As soon as I read ultimate tool I knew what it was, because we fix virtually any and al broken thinks with duct tape. If it's broke...only 3 things are required to fix it, duct tape a hammer and more duct tape.
As far as being heat resistant I can say that I have wrapped it around my radiator hose. I then ran the vehicle for another 100 miles before I could afford to replace the hose...and if you have EVER touched a radiator hose after a quick jaunt to the store you know it gets really hot!! Good Teaser!
That was a cool teaser.
I really liked that one. Good Job! For some reason I thought it was super glue...I guess the bonding thing . Oh well...it was fun trying! When's your next teaser?

I don't think we have duct tape at our house so i didn't get it
Living in Montana, we always have a use for duct tape... we took our raft down the Yellowstone river for a 2 week camping/float trip, first day, there was a hole in one of the compartments that holds the air, and the hole was underwater... dad just put duct tape on it (red even! it matched the raft!) and we were good to go for the next 2 weeks...
also: at camp we've made bracelets out of braiding the different colored peices of duct tape...
my dad's birthday wish list:
WD-4D and Camo duct tape
"to fix anything in this world, you only need 2 things: if it should move and doesnt, use WD-4D; if it doesnt move and should, use Duct tape!"
and finally, I'll end my loooooong post with a little saying that I've always found rather stupid, yet amusing at the same time...
Duct Tape is like The Force, it has a light side, a dark side, and it holds the universe together!

That it WAS!!!

And to those who've never used duct tape (Duck Tape is just a brand name because pronouncing the T in Duct and then the T in Tape right after is hard, so some genius came up with Duck Tape)
And as a user of the awesome stuff, I didn't know it came in so may colors. Grey/Silver works just fine for me.
I had I guy buy something at my work one day and he had a wallet made out of nothing but duct tape. The next thing I know, I saw them at a street vender/mkt fair

Great stuff - never knew it had such a history! I have to keep mine under lock & key because it disappears - the kids make things out of it!
Since my son-in-law considers himself King of the duct tape users I'm really "stuck up" since I didn't see this one coming. Great teaser with important information.
Duct Tape, Duct Tape! Did somebody say Duct Tape? I can't seem to live without it.
If there's a hole in the tent, Hon grab the Duct Tape PLEEEASE!!!!

I'm liking this one. My first thought was either a hammer or a screw driver. Duct tape is much, much better than either of those. Great teaser. Learn something every day.
It's true.....no home should be without it! Which is why I thought of it right away.
How come I was thinking the answer was spam?? I'm worried about myself now.
drussel3 gr8 teaser with lots of great comments.
Oh yes, I'll not disappoint - the strangest thing I ever saw done was a wedding dress of duct tape!!!
That my friend was taking the love and need just a little too far!
Look forward to reading all your teasers. Keep them coming.
Yes it was white.

easy peasy!!
MAN I THOUGHT I WAS MY BRAIN!!!!
Nice and easy I got it GOOD one
I too thought first of some kind of glue and then of duct tape. We dont have duct tape commonly in use where we live, but I have used it from a roll brought from US by someone else. However, I didnt know that it had a myriad of uses. Thanks for the teaser, a very good one!
How interesting!! Thanks for the info! When in doubt, DUCK TAPE!!
I got this one, but think it is deceptive to actually call it a "Tool" it's more like an accessory(in my opinion)
to lisha_kc, guns aren't tools, people with guns are tools.
(Sorry, it had to be said)
(Sorry, it had to be said)
Wonder why you call it a tool rather than an item? I don't consider duct tape to be a tool. I had guessed screw driver because it "bonds".
Fun teaser. Thanks.
Fun teaser. Thanks.
Duct Tape is the Tool I use most to fix things. Good one. I missed it though
I GT it, but it was fun to read more about it!
wow that was really easy...i got it on the second line. at least i got it though! next time, maybe make it just a little harder.
I figured out but only after first thinking of a band-aid. I have a purse made out of duct tape and cardboard.
For some reason I was thinking glue?!
Great teaser! I also enjoyed reading all the comments and uses for duct tape. It is widely used at our house for just about everything.
If you can't fix it, duct it!

HAHA, nice one. I actually got it from the start as I actually have a role sitting next to my computer. It is holding parts of my cpu together. It is infact heat resistant. Just not flame retardant. Anyway, such a simplistic, and versatile adhesive tool really is the universal tool.
For some reason I was thinking a key...
Jul 30, 2006
Tape is actually not technically a tool. It is a material. I was stymied when the clues included both adhesive and tool.
Hehe the worldwide OM (odessey of the mind) motto has got to be :"PVC pipe makes the world go round, and duct tape holds it together." hehe. In every OM team I have been on, we have had to use duct tape.
I
nice one...thas kinda scary that nasa cant come up with somethin better but o well
don't know what the world would do without duct tape
I am very close to the north states, so I am not really a redneck, but once I saw ultimate tool, I got it instently ( sad, isn't it )
Oldie but goodie. Knew it immediately.
professionally speaking, gotta have it, Thanks for the laugh.
Great teaser! Very creative.
I love duct tape!
I love duct tape!
Kentucky chrome!
I got this one right away, and I love it. Also love "Duck" tape. Great teaser. Thanks.
NICE1!!!
There are 2 things that belong in every tool box - duct tape for the things that move but shouldn't and WD 40 for the things that should move but don't...
I looooooooove duct tape!!!! I remember a friend made me a duct tape wallet once, and then I lost it. Thanks for great fun! Great teaser!
Um, try "humans" as an answer instead of duct tape.
WELL WELL, I THOUGHT IT WAS A HAMMER. BUT I WAS ON THE WRONG TRACK. DUCT TAPE-- WHERE IM FROM IN KENTUCKY WE ALWAYS HAD 3 THINGS TO MAKE REPAIRS -- A HAMMER--CHICKEN WIRE AND DUCT TAPE . VITTALS ARE COOKED AND IM READY TO EAT.. HEE HAW..
I got it!!!!
I duct out of figuring that one out I'll tape that one to the frig!
OK tuckerp, trying "humans" as the answer:
The ultimate tool - Maybe
Waterproof properties - OK
Quickly adopted for a specific military application when originally introduced - No
US Government recommended that all homes have it available - I doubt it
Superior bonding - Possibly
Heat resistant - Not really
Extremely strong - Yeah, OK
Easy to use - Definitely not
No training required - Certainly helpful though
Widely available in various sizes and colors - Definitely
Included on every flight that leaves the launch pad - Not necessarily
No home, military unit, or spacecraft should be without it - Not necessarily

Spkethru4u, in every instance in which you've doubted the truth of the clues given for this puzzler, you're wrong. Do a little research before you begin attempting to debunk.
Got this one right away!
EASY-PEASY! Everyone knows duct tape is one of the most important tools to have in your box.
I believe it was Red Green who said the only twio items you really need in your tool kit are Duct Tape and WD-40
If it moves but it should't, use the Duct Tape. If it doesn"t move but it should, use the WD-40!

Just an observation. This seems to be more along the lines of a question, i.e. not actually a teaser, puzzle, or even riddle. It is simply a question that someone might be asked on a plumbing test. Good question!
I got this one right away. I' m not a redneck, though I do love in Florida. Originally from New York (LI), and when I got my first car, my Dad had me carry a roll in the trunk in case a water hose ever sprang a leak. That was over 50 years ago. An oldie but goodie. (The tape, not me, I 'm not old! )
Fun and entertaining teaser; I was thinking some sort of tape and then got it with the hint.
Fun teaser. I would bet that if public polling were done, duct tape would have the highest approval rating of anything. No one dislikes duct tape! In junior high school, my son's class raised money by selling wallets made completely of duct tape. I did not know a roll was carried on all space flights, but I sleep better knowing it is there!
Nice teaser on duct tape. Wouldn't it be wonderful if we could fix Braingle and its 'faux queue'* with a roll.
*say it aloud ... HILARIOUS !!!!
Jaye & Jay *(Babbunnee02)

I knew the answer, almost immediately; duct tape + WD40( the ultimate tool kit )!
Very cleverly worded teaser. This time I got it right away and did not need the hint.
