Ten years ago a bank robbery was committed by Fast Frankie and one of his accomplices. To this day his accomplice is unknown. Fast Frankie had served 5 years in jail, refusing to give up his accomplice, and the location of the missing cash and jewels. Fast Frankie had deliberately not told his accomplice where the money and gold was hidden - he didn't want to get out of jail and find it all spent.

But now, Fast Frankie lay dying. He had been shot by Detective Sing (in the line of duty). Detective Sing sat next to him, waiting for the ambulance that had been called.

"Tell my son," Frankie whispered.

"Yes?" said Detective Sing.

Fast Frankie tried again "Tell Johnny...the money...it's in the West Bank..."

Frankie lay down, his breathing stilled, and he died.
Detective Sing got to his feet, and he ordered that all his men start searching West Bank for the missing money. He suspected that Johnny was the missing accomplice, and that Fast Frankie had just told him where he'd stashed their spoils.

The next day the officers returned to Detective Sing and said that no one at the West Bank could find any trace of the missing money or gold. Detective Sing thanked them, and went to contact Johnny, to see whether he could help them. At the interview, Johnny asked whether Frankie had had any last words for him. Detective Sing told Johnny what Fast Frankie had told him. Johnny thanked Detective Sing, and shortly after left to go make arrangements for the funeral.

The next day Detective Sing had another interview with Johnny. A sparkle of gold caught Detective Sing's attention.

"Where did you get that gold watch?" he demanded.

"My father left it to me," Johnny smirked.

On the pretext of getting a cup of coffee, Detective Sing ordered some of his men to go have a look at Fast Frankie's property (no, not to search it, that would be illegal without a search warrant). As the police officers crossed the bridge to get to Frankie's house, they saw something which was enough to have Johnny arrested as the missing accomplice. What was it?

GOOD JOB. Very clever. I didn't get it right but when I saw the answer it made perfect sense. Well done.

Jul 10, 2005

That doesn't mean he was the other robber!

i got it easily...I really didnt like that teaser. I thought it was a little too easy, and how could he have been shot in the line of duty? Wasn't he in jail?

yeah, confused about the line of duty thing. also, just because johnny knew what 'west bank' referred to doesn't make him the accomplice. anyone with half a brain would know what west bank means (especially if you live near a river!)

yeah i got it easy but ure right it doesn't mean he's the accopmlice and how was he shot in the line of duty unless the duty was not telling the interergators who was the accopmlice (i cant spell)

ok, for those of you who want to know how he got shot while he was in jail - he was in the process of breaking out, he'd pulled a gun on the guards, when he was shot by Detective Sing in self defence (does that work for everyone?)

Jul 13, 2005

um no cuz i thought he was shot in thee line of duty!!!

Detective Sing shot Frankie. Frankie was escaping, Detective Sing shot him (which meant that he's not going to be in trouble for murdering the guy 'coz it was in the line of duty). Why he's being shot doesn't really matter, I just didn't want people to think good old Detective Sing was a murderer.

That wasn't bad a little challenging at first but i got it. Good.

The teaser clearly says that the bank robery was 10 years ago and he was in jail for 5 years. Couldn't he have just been released and then up to his old mischeif again? Anyway, that is aside from the point. I agree with others that just because he could decipher the clue doesn't mean he was an accomplice!!

The detective just happened to be there during the attempted break-out? Seems a little fishy. It was pretty easy, but I enjoyed it.

Good teaser....and how many of you complaining have had one accepted???? just asking.....cause it's not easy to come up with something that's original, challenging, and actually makes sense.....

It was good, but I still don't see how that meant that he was the other guy..He could have told his best friend where it was, and he could have looked there. Unless his son confessed, they have no evidence.

When you read 'Two minute mysteries' (by Donald J. Sobol), you learn quickly to look at other meanings of stuff, homophones and the like, etc.

Nice teaser, but i thought it was easy.

Good one, up until the last paragraph, I thought of the West Bank in Palestine! Way off base, and then the last line gave it away!
