Gretchen, Henry, and the Missing Jewels
Mystery teasers are little stories where you need to figure out what happened based on the given clues.
Detective Gretchen looked out of her window at a beautiful California sunset, but she was not enjoying it at all. She was sure that Henry was up to no good again, but she didn't have as clean a case as she needed. She had him under arrest for stealing the jewels from the traveling exhibit at the museum, but since she couldn't find the jewels, she was afraid she was going to have to let him go. One of the guards said Henry was sending a letter to his girlfriend, but there was not much useful information in it.
"Let me see that letter," demanded Gretchen, sure that she would find enough in it to get the jewels. The guard gave her the letter, but warned he was only talking about eating and drinking, and there wasn't much to go on.
The letter read: "Dear Lizzie, I can't wait to be released from here so we can be together again. I was thinking we could go to drink some dessert wine by the water where I recently dropped my waffle on the beach under the tree closest to the parking lot. I will bring myself, if you can bring the ice and anything else we need. Love, Henry"
"What a fool," muttered Gretchen, as she dispatched her team of officers to gather the evidence.
Where did she send them to get the jewels?
Answer
The jewels were found in a recently-covered hole under a tree at the San Diego port. In Henry's letter, he mentioned the dessert wine (Port), the waffle he dropped on the beach (Sandy Eggo -- hence, San Diego), and the tree. Gretchen knew he wouldn't need ice for the wine, so the ice he referred to must have been the diamonds from the exhibit.

| that was good, I didnt get it, but then I never heard of San Diego Port so I probably never would have gotten that. But, it's a fun idea, although I thought Henry could have tried to hide the fact that he was sending a hidden message better, made it sound more natural somehow, but, hey, it's easy to critique, hard to create, so, good job! |
