Brain Teasers
The Thief 2
A thief stole a diamond from a New York auction house this morning. Detective Dan has the names of three suspects. Mr. Brewer said he spent the morning at the Metropolitan Museum of Art; Mr. Murphy said he took a cab to the Statue of Liberty; and Miss Markum said she was sightseeing from the Empire State Building. Which one does Detective Dan suspect is the thief?
Answer
Mr. Murphy, because the Statue of Liberty is on a small island, accessible by ferry not cab. Mr. Murphy's flawed alibi suggests he may be the thief.Hide Answer Show Answer

Had to read carefully, but then it was pretty simple. More please.

got it right away; didnt even have to finish reading the clue.
funny easy smart nice teaser im happy good job
Easy, but fun!
I never did like that Mr. Murphy.
Plus, I've been to New York so this one wasn't difficult at all.

I've never been to NYC but I'd heard of that Mr. Murphy. There's even a special law dealing with him.....Murphy's Law!!
how are you ment to know that? I thought it would have been Mr Murphy & Miss Markum as they were both in high up places so they were spying and sussing it out together! How does a ferry make a difference to a cab or a get away car?
The good news: I got it right.
The bad news: I thought it was because the first guy said what he was doing in the morning, so it couldn't be him, and the last person said that they went to the Empire State Building...something which probably would have taken most of the day...especially the morning. Taking a cab doesn't take all morning.
oh well
great teaser, tho!

Mr Murphys alibi could still be true. He could have taken a cab to see the statue of liberty, this does not mean he went all the way up to the statue in the cab, but just from where ever he was to the nearest point to the statue accessable by road.
