Brain Teasers
Game of Monopoly
Situation
Situation puzzles (sometimes called lateral thinking puzzles) are ones where you need to ask lots of yes or no questions to figure out what happened in the situation. These are good puzzles for groups where one person knows the puzzle and answers the questions.Situation
Chris and Jane are playing a game of Monopoly. Chris rolls a seven and lands on Park Place.
"Yes! Now I have a Monopoly with Boardwalk and Park Place," said Chris.
"Wait a minute," said Jane. "You cheated!"
How did she know Chris cheated?

Hint
Think about the Monopoly board.Answer
If Chris rolled a seven and landed on Park Place, he would have been on the Go to Jail space before his move. He should have been in Jail, not on Park Place.Hide Hint Show Hint Hide Answer Show Answer

wait... but couldnt he have been in the just visiting space?
I agree with mmpp123, they could have been in the "just visiting spot", which is hardly cheating.
No, the Just Visiting is part of the Jail space, but diagonally across the board is a GO TO JAIL space. Seven squares after the GTJ space is Park Place. So if the guy had rolled a seven to get to PP, he should have already been in Jail, per the previous roll of the dice.
Great teaser.
Great teaser.
I didn't know getting all of the same color was called a Monopoly. Great teaser!
I don't own Monopoly, so I had NO IDEA.
Got it w/out looking at a board. Bit easy but I liked it!!!
same here.
you don't need to even look at a monopoly board.
just think about what spaces he couldn't have been on.
that's the only one that moves you somewhere else (next to the chance and community cards)

Good explanation Winner4600.
He was on the GO TO JAIL space previosly, not the actual jail space... seven spaces from the Jail space is Community Chest.
I hope that explains it also.

Great teaser!
Monopoly is based on streets around London. In London and in the English version of Monopoly there is a Park Lane but no Park Place. Its colour group property is called Mayfair and there is no property called Boardwalk. I presume this teaser is based on some corrupted American version of Monopoly.
Incorrect, Jimbo! Sorry to break the news to you, but Monopoly is originally an American game, based on cities and streets in the United States. Therefore, Park Place is NOT "some corrupted version". It is part of the original version.
My apology! You are quite correct. That will teach me to make such harsh comments.
I liked this one. LOVE Monopoly. After a few second of thinking, i got it.
