Brain Teasers
Relationships #9
Group
These brain teasers rely on your ability to recognize groups of common attributes. For each of these puzzles you'll need to figure out why the words or letters are grouped as they are. Sometimes you will be asked to pick the odd-one-out or to place a new word into the correct group.Group
In this teaser your job is to discover what all the words in COLUMN A have in common with each other.
The words in COLUMN B do not have any relationship with COLUMN A or with each other. They are there to help you check your theory for the words in COLUMN A. COLUMN B is also there to eliminate answers that are technically correct, but trivial, such as 'words with less than 12 letters', and so on. Good luck!

That was really good! But I found it hard. This helps my English
I thought it was a very good teaser Jazz. Thank you
Difficult. But I still don't get Column B at all - wasn't really helpful to me.
Was it just a red herring? Or am I missing something?
Thanks!
Jim

It took me all of five seconds to start inserting a's, but it's a good teaser
J-Mac, the B list is words where adding a after the e doesn't make a word.

Maybe I'm not awake, or am stupid, but I couldn't work out what to do with that at all
thanks! easy and fun
This is the second time that I have been stumped with one of these puzzles. Column B just confuses the whole thing. I try to ignore it, but it is like the elephant in the room..... no matter how hard I try, it is still there. Usually love your teasers Jazz, but this kind doesn't do it for me. Sorry.
I got the right answer, but I agree with the others that Column B makes no sense other to confuse. I just pretend it's not there. Why do you even have it. Testing the theory on Column B doesn't even work!
I have to agree with lucy and auntisis. I have no clue when it comes to solving this type of teaser. I don't even understand the explanation of how to solve it. It is waaaay over my head. Thanks for posting and congratulations to those who solved it.
It was easy and fun. Column B probably could have been limited to 2 or three entries (although you missed adding a word starting with a vowel, since all words provided start with a consonant).
Not bad. Should have stuck with my theory when I saw "herd".
I learned from the last one to just ignore Column B, but I still didn't get it. Maybe next time.
I just don't get most lateral thinking type puzzles. Out of a number of possibly correct solutions, you have to guess the one the author was thinking about at the time.
My answer was that all words only used the vowel e. Why was that any less correct than the given answer? As for Column B, I had no idea.

I looked at Relationships 6 thru 13. Now that I understand what you're looking for, 6 and 7 were easy, but not really fun. I liked 11 and 12, they are more like what I expected them all to be. I didn't like 13, it was no fun at all. Thanks anyway, I like most of your stuff.
Okay, here's what Column B is supposed to do for you.
Let's say your theory is "All the Words are less than 12 letters". This is technically correct.
However, since the words in Column B don't have any relationship to themselves or Column A, your theory would be incorrect. The theory works for Column B as well, but this is a signifier that the theory is wrong.
Basically, since the theory works in BOTH Column A and B, it is an incorrect one. Try to find a theory that works only in Column A, but not in B.

I agree -- all words in column A had only "E"s for vowels. Much simpler answer, just as valid.
You guys win...I wont do any more Column A and Column B teasers.
I thought Column B worked pretty well. The consensus is: they don't. That's fine. You win some and you loose some. I certainly wont be losing any sleep over them!
Jazz, i like your teasers, keep them coming.
Well thank you
Well this was a good teaser. I liked it.
I didn't get it, but it was good! I tried inserting A but didn't realize Reagent is a word.

I got this one right away, but the Column B part just confuses me and a I don't use it.
please stop with all the column b business. your teasers are cool enough without them. it defeats the purpose because it makes it seem a little incomprehensible.
