Brain Teasers
My Radio
Situation
Situation puzzles (sometimes called lateral thinking puzzles) are ones where you need to ask lots of yes or no questions to figure out what happened in the situation. These are good puzzles for groups where one person knows the puzzle and answers the questions.Situation
Last week whilst driving home from work I was listening to my favourite radio station, enjoying the music.
Suddenly, the radio went off for one minute and came back on again.
I did not touch the radio controls. There was nothing wrong with the radio or my car; nor was there any problems with the radio station and its program transmission. Most people listening to the same radio station did not experience any loss of reception.
Why did the radio suddenly go off for a minute and then come back on again?

Answer
I entered a tunnel on the road that passed through a mountain. Because it took me one minute to drive through the tunnel, the radio reception was temporarily interrupted.Hide Answer Show Answer

this is reeeeeaaaaalllllllyyy easy, i dont think anyone could not know the answer after reading this.
Isn't reception part of the transmission?

You'd be surprised Majher
I said that you turned off your car

rexlamos, you win some and you loose some when you submit on Braingle!
Sorry - that was a pretty awful teaser! Much too easy.

I disagree with some...it WAS easy but very cute...thanks for submitting
I read it too quickly and said it was a minute of silence.
I really should read the teasers properly.

At least you are honest Quick
I had an alternate answer...your cell phone rang, and your car was equipped with a Bluetooth device. I have one, and the radio automatically is silenced so that I can answer the phone. I do not have to touch the controls.
very true about the bluetooth...my mom has one and if you dont hear the ring right away all you notice is the radio cut out so you can answer
hehe i thought the car had came to a halt. but anyways, i wouldn't have been able to answer that because i never experienced such thing when driving through a tunnel. but anways liked the teaser!
Thanks
I liked it. I thought he turned his car off or something.
My answer:
You were driving beyond the 'area of reception' (Is it the right term?). You went far enough from the station that you cannot hear clearly the reception. I mean, 'Location, Location, Location!' Bluetooth tech and interference are also good reasons.
But wait! A tunnel a driving-minute long? That would be very long! I'd miss out the chorus! No~~~!!!

if there was nothing wrong with the transmission, how oculd you not here it through a tunnel? radio stations with good transmission send their signal through tunnels.
Not all Radio Stations. It depends if you are listening to AM Radio or FM Radio, the way the stations broadcast their signals is different.
Try this! Drive through a Tunnel playing AM Radio, see what happens.
Try using FM Radio, see what happens.
Still! The radio would not be un-heard all the way through the tunnel, there would be Static, not silence.

it would not be sudden either. It slowly like gets more static.
