Haha I got it right but for the wrong reason. My reason was it's the only word ending with a vowel.
Yes, also only word with two different vowels. And the only one where the first three and last three letters spell words: "for" and "ore". Could probably find many more for each of the words: wolf is only animal, pans is only plural noun, etc. Fun to try to find the most interesting distinction to be most likely the answer. good one!

Excellent teaser. No matter what i tried, I couldn't come up with the right answer, so you got me. Thanks for posting.
I play a lot of Word Whomp at Pogo, so "fore" was the only word that I didn't know an anagram for. Then I noticed that all the anagrams are simply reversal.
