Animal Antics
These brain teasers rely on your ability to recognize groups of common attributes. For each of these puzzles you'll need to figure out why the words or letters are grouped as they are. Sometimes you will be asked to pick the odd-one-out or to place a new word into the correct group.
All except one of the following animals have something in common. What feature connects them? Which does not fit with the others in the list?
Dog, Cat, Ape, Goat, Wolf, Badger, Monkey, Squirrel
HintThe title will give you a clue.

Answer
Cat does not fit - the others are all human actions (verbs)
Dog = to follow (someone) closely
Ape = to copy, mimic
Goat = to annoy or enrage some one
Wolf = to eat greedily
Badger = to pester (someone), ask repeatedly for something
Monkey = to fool around; to tamper (with)
Squirrel = to hide things away in a safe place

| Did not like this one and why eliminate the cat? Did you never hear of taking a "cat nap" That is a human action. |

| @Babe, "to cat" is not a verb - not that I've ever heard of, anyway.
Good teaser, didn't get it. I went for ape because it doesn't have a tail. |

| Or, for that matter, did you never hear of "catting around," also a human action. All in all, a very poorly formulated puzzle. We do not speak of "goating" someone; we speak, rather, of getting someone's goat. Furthermore, there are two other perfectly good answers to this puzzle: goat could be the odd mammal out, because it is the only one with horns, or, alternatively, badger could be the odd mammal out, because it is the only one that burrows. As I said, a poorly thought-out puzzle. Boo, hiss! |

| I think you're thinking of goad not goat. I looked in several online dictionaries and not one has goat as a verb. |

| I was thinking Ape because all the other animals have tails. |

| I'm not trying to be catty, but...
Ape is the correct answer because it is the only one without a tail. |

| I too was thinking that you were thinking of "GOAD" not "GOAT". As pointed out, you can "get someone's goat" but you do not goat them.
There could be an argument made for anyone of those words not fitting the group for any number of reasons.
I'd have to agree that this was not among my favorite teasers. |

| Massive FAIL. The expression is Goad NOT:
Goat = to annoy or enrage some one.
If you can't fix the puzzle, it should be withdrawn. It also relies on idiomatic expressions which may not even be universal. You messed up on the goat/goad thing though. |

| I went with Monkey for the only one with a prehensile tail. |

| Wolf is the answer. You have to change the spelling to get the plural form - wolves. For all the others, you simply add 's'. |

| Lots of comments. I, too, thought ape because of the tail. Happy Valentine's Day to my sweet friend. |

| There is the phrase 'cat around' and you can guess the meaning. I went for the goat myself. But it was still fun. |

| This doesn't look the same as the one I sent in - I see it has been "corrected" and now I'm not happy with it.
Of course, GOAT is the answer ... the others are verbs. To 'cat around' is acceptable. The suggestion that GOAT means to annoy or enrage someone is NOT correct!!
I'm sorry, folks!! I'll suggest the change is made. |
