Brain Teasers
Weirdville
As I was walking down a hill
Of my home town, it's called "Weirdville"
Ahead of me, 3 skaters came
As if their boards, propelled by flame
For freely they went flying by
No pushing needed, they barely tried
Then truly did I there behold
4 skooters dashed, with blue and gold
Just as the skaters had before
whistling past myself they tore.
To cap it off on this strange day
2 Roller bladers entered the fray
To match the groups already seen
They passed quick like they'd never been
I thought how strange, this town of mine
So many wonders, and strange signs.
What is so strange about my town of Weirdville?

Hint
The key is in the first line.Answer
The fact that skateboards, skooters, and roller bladers can 'freely' move 'up' hills without need for pushing. The first line mentions the fact that I was walking 'down' a hill and saw all of these groups come ahead of me and fly past me indicating that they were 'free-wheeling' up a hill? Pretty weird if you ask me :P.Hide Hint Show Hint Hide Answer Show Answer

I assumed that you were walking down a small hill and were near the bottom. In front of you is a larger hill. The skaters and friends have all coasted down the larger hill in front of you and their momentum has carried them up your small hill past you with great speed. Also, you haven't witnessed any of the skaters put forth any effort because all of their work was done on the opposite side of the hill that you could not see.----Too many possibilities to be a good riddle.
Great one D!

Good riddle! I was caught by the numerals and the mispelling of scooter - I didn't even think about the skaters being ahead. A little polish wouldn't hurt.
Thanks for the comments anonymous. Yeah in looking at it again I hadn't spotted those... damn damn damn! ;). For a self proclaimed linguistic pedant I have failed pretty dismally there.
Oh and cart if you have this opinion on this teaser then I would love to hear your comment on 'St Ive's' one of the more well known teasers ever which is of a similar nature. At least this teaser introduces the concept of gravity and momentum. I still do thank you for your feedback, however I believe that you appear to have simply been fooled by the riddle more than it not being a good riddle. Riddles of this type are particularly difficult to eliminate every possibility but I feel I eliminated most - after all you only came up with one other possibility yet stated "too many possibilities" plural.

I think this was very good. If you concentrated on it a bit, you could clearly see that everyone was going downhill. It's like one of those riddles where the answer is right in frot of you and that makes it tricky. It's kewl though.
Great teaser.
Ha ha! I had a good time on that one...I was sitting here forever trying to figure out what was wrong when it was really so simple. Thanks for the great teaser!
well, personally, i think D is a genius... (and did he say damn?)
oh wait...i'm partial, we're a family of geniuses!!!!

Maybe I'm just obnoxious, but this one seemed pretty obvious to me. Not much of a teaser, because it didn't seem like it required much thought.
Imageek (funny name btw), I agree with your sentiment as sometimes the answer does just jump straight out of you in teasers like this, sometimes not. I know I have looked at teasers like this before and thought 'how easy' then at other times have sat there for a long time and when I finally got it have quoted that man Homer with an almighty DOH!!.
Datra... thanks for your affirmation - she is my virtual sister by the way, in case anyone thought we were actually related, only in the online world.
Thanks all for you thoughts on this.
