What about holding both ends of the rope with one hand and use your free hand to make a slip knot in the rope.

You should be clearer, make a loop, insert your arm, then pull arm out of loop with rope in it. Another option is to tie a Spanish bowline, or just make a loop in the rope and tie it around itself (if you want a hand to do that with, you could just hold one end of the rope in your teeth, it doesn't say what you are holding it with...)
