I have to say - I really hate it how "game" and "play" are linked advertisements.

I know you can get out of advertising by being a subscribing member, but I dunno if subscribing members can see these links?

I just think its really tacky, especially the links to gambling in poker games. For a website that always harps on about being 'family friendly', I can't understand how this slipped through...

I'm also really annoyed that the basis for this website seems to be attracting advertisers, instead of attracting members. I know this probably doesn't belong here, so I'll stop, but I just wanted to say I take issue with the links to the words "game" and "play" in this forum, especially as it is set up for children, and I would be SO angry if any child of mine got lured into playing poker online "to win great prizes", stemming from what is supposed to be a family friendly site.

I sincerely hope these links get taken down - its insulting.

Oh, and after seeing my post put up, I realise that "win" is also linked - a sure lure for the young children on this site. DISGUSTING.

OK, now these things aren't linked, but I want to make Mods aware that these words (including, now "free") are popping up in PMs and other areas of the site. Can someone please comment on this? I don't think its very family friendly...

if you send a PM to someone with the word "win", "free", "game" etc in it, it will show up on their computer with a link to the website...

so if you receive a PM (from anyone) and it has the word "win" in it, it will be a link to the same website as you see in this forum.

That's not right, they are spamming through pm's. Put those people on your foe's list, and give a mod their name, so we can let Jake know of these members. They are soliciting . . . also, could it be a way to infect your computer with a virus? IDK, but I'd not click on any link they provide. Yep, if they are placed on enough people's foe list, they will start collecting bad karma, which will limit their activities around here.

no, thats not it - its coming from brainglers I know and trust.

I've even seen it in posts around the website. But its not like a link put there by a member, its like an olive green with a line (sometimes double I think) underneath, and when you hover your mouse over it a box pops up inviting you to play poker, win money etc etc.

It even comes up in the main "forums" page (you know, the list of all the forums) in the Games Forum subtitle - the word "game" and "play" are linked to this weird website.

beetle, I think this is a problem at your end and not on Braingle. I am not a subscriber and I have been reading all the forum posts and I see no links anywhere. Sometimes if you have some spyware on your computer, it automatically adds links to certain words. Braingle never advertises through linking words on the message boards or PMs. The ads are just banner ads on the sides or at the top.

I dunno - this has happened on multiple computers with different IPs...

I know that Braingle doesn't link words on message boards or in our PMs, thats why its mystifying for me.

With all that has happened in the last few days with regard to hackers, I think it is important that someone has a look into improving security on this site.
