A phishing scam is where someone tries to trick you into giving them secret information, such as your password. There have been a few instances of phishing scams on Braingle. Typically, this takes the form of a private message, chat, or IM conversation that claims to be me, or claims to be affiliated with Braingle and asks for your password. If you give them your information, then the phisher now has your password and can sign into your account and cause all sorts of problems.
Never, ever type in your Braingle password on any website other than Braingle. Never ever. Also, you should never ever share your password with anyone. Not even someone who seems to be affiliated with Briangle. No editor, moderator, quizmaster, or even Me will ever ask for your password. Never ever. Ultimately, the security of your account is your responsibility. If your account is stolen and used by someone else for evil purposes, we will have no choice by to block your account to prevent the evil from spreading.
