9/10. I just answered "pawn" to q9 because it couldn't move around a lot. Anyway, I use pawns a LOT when playing chess. They just help.

Anyway, I thought being first was a disadvantage in this game...

9/10 I don't understand how the pawn is the weakest. Doesn't the game depend mainly on strategy, not a list of which is the weakest and which is the strongest? Otherwise, great game.

I agree w/ the others who felt the king is the weakest piece. Even individually, a pawn is a strategically important piece. In any given game of chess, how many pieces are captured by a pawn? Can the same be said about the king? Certainly not! Pawns are offense, pawns are defense, pawns defend the king. The king defends nothing, the whole objective of the game is to capture/protect his sorry...well, you get the idea!

In traditional chess scoring a pawn is generally given 1 point value (compared with 3,5, and 10 for the other pieces). A king isn't counted as it either survives or doesn't and has no effect on relative strength of game at any one time. All of this completely leaves out strategic positioning on the board as, obviously, you may be outscored by many points and still lose the game. It's just a relative way of assessing mutual strengths at any time in the game if the relative positioning is generally equal.

I have to agree that the king is prob technically the weakest ...
Thogh the pawn is limited they are not as limited in attacking as the king is ....they dont have
to have restriction in movement bc of being threaten .They also capable of becocoming queen
or another more powerful piece. Its one thoose question that prob could of been left off bc it
is more of a opinion than a def fact.Still a pretty nice quiz.Enjoyed it

That's nonsense, without the king there is no game, so the king is stronger than 10 queens.

Very good quiz! Interesting questions with good explanations.

That being said, I wish to say my piece (no pun intended) regarding question #9. Even before read the comments of others, I felt this was a subjective, and ultimately controversial, question. I chose the king as the weakest piece. Since, IMO, "power" implies what it can "do", then the king would fit the bill. The object of the entire game is to capture the opponents king, which YOUR king is unable to accomplish. Since it is the only piece that CANNOT win the game for you, I would consider that to be powerless - i.e., the "weakest link" (sorry - couldn't resist).
