Lots of fun. I should never second guess myself and them learn to spell. ![]()
I agree with what Norcekri said, Paul Revere didn't make that ride. . . and most likely they did not say "The British Are Coming" because they were all considered part of the British empire. Instead they would have said "The Redcoats Are Coming." Fun quiz. ![]()
9/10. Not bad! However, number 5 is misleading. Edison invented the lightbulb, true enuff. But it was Nikola Tesla and George Westinghouse who were responsible for turning the lights on. When the lights came on, they came on with Alternating Current, which Tesla invented and has the patent on. If it had been Edison's doings, those bulbs would have been operating on Direct Current. Edison had a bitter controversy with Tesla and his AC system, and went to a lot of trouble to discredit him and his AC system. He also lobbied hard to electrify the East Coast with DC power, but didn't win out in the end; Tesla did. Thank God for that.
So OK, I misspelled Hubble. Why should I get only an A instead of an A+ simply because Mr. Hubble didn't know that his name should have been spelled Hubbell, as in the baseball player Carl Hubbell? Fie on you, Mr HUBBLE!!!
9/10 Mis-spelt HUBBLE's name. Shame on me. While speculation has run rampant on the words used by Revere, Dawes, Bissel, etal., two theories on what was said has been traditionally accepted. One-"THE REDCOATS ARE COMING!" and Two-"THE REGULARS ARE COMING!" I lean toward "THE REGULARS....." because, at that time, His Majesty's, King George III, army were considered the regulars as opposed to the Continental Army. ![]()
9/10--I missed the Geronimo question! I should have known that!
Good quiz though.
