Only 4/10 but loved the quiz! I love Civil War stuff and these women made a huge mark in history!
Great topic, well written and great explanations! I really liked this quiz a lot!
I may be wrong but I don't think so- in question number ten you say "Battle of Bull Run and at Manassas." Now, it is true that there was a first and second Bull Run-and there was a first and second Manassas but, well, the reason is, that Bull Run and Manassas ARE THE SAME BATTLE. In the Civil War the South had one name for a battle and the North another. Another example is the Battle of Antietnam also known as the Battle of Shapsburg-same battle, two names. First and Second Bull Run and First and Second Manassas ARE THE SAME BATTLES. I know as it is one of the battlefields I have visited and found the place where my great great Uncle was shot in the hip (he later went on to be awarded the Congressional Medal of Honor for action at Petersburg-he was one of the few soldiers who fought for the entire war-enlisted before First Mansassa/Bull Run in April of 1862-was out of commission until December 1862-re-enlisted and finally mustered out in December of 1865. He was also at Appomattox Courth House and was one of the soldiers who carried the Confederate Colors back to Washington. So, as I said, I may be wrong but I don't think so.
Other than that, an excellent quiz-very good.
7 out of 10 but I have to admit I guessed on most. Great topic and good explanations! Thanks! ![]()

That is the link used for parts of my quiz and is where the information concerning Rose O'Neal Greenhow on Question 10.
I just would like to mention that as a Daughter of the Confederacy, I have been studying the Civil War and am confident in any of the things on my quiz. If you notice the wording you will see that as both battles are mentioned, they are not said to be two separate battles, because of the two different names I wrote it the way it should be worded.
Thank you to those who have enjoyed the quiz. ![]()
Then you should have said Manassas ALSO CALLED Bull Run. There was only ONE BATTLE- Manassas/Bull Run-Manassas for the town near the battle and Bull Run for the creek-BUT IT WAS THE SAME BATTLE. There was First Manassas/Bull Run, and Second Manassas/Bull Run, either indicate they are the same battle by saying "also called" OR use the same name for both. If you are going to split the names and calle First Manassas/Bull Run - by the Northern Name and Second Manassas/Bull Run by the Southern name THEN SAY THEY ARE THE SAME BATTLE. What you have done is like saying that John Kennedy was became President in 1961 and Fitzgerald Kennedy was killed in 1963. You did NOT write it correctly. Also, I would like to mention that as a TEACHER OF HISTORY I have studdied and TAUGHT the Civil War. Even in your explaination you split the battles by saying "BOTH battles" -They are seperated by Number 1 and Number 2, NOT BY TWO DIFFERENT NAMES. And for the record, my Uncle fought in BOTH FIRST MANASSAS/BULL RUN AND SECOND MANASSAS/BULL RUN along with being in every major battle in Virginia.
To add a bit of history to this-I needed information about my Uncle's Civil War Records and the first and closest battlefield I stopped at was Wilson Creek in Missouri-I was told that one of the rangers there was an expert and could help me. As he was looking at the papers I had he remarked "Your uncle was awarded the CMOH on land my family has owned for hundreds of years." My uncle was figthing at Hatchers's Run and I looked at his name and his last name was Hatcher. I said "say, your ancestors may have known my Uncle." Without skipping a beat he replied "My ancestors were SHOOTING at your uncle." It only goes to show how close a country we really are.
I have noticed Donavansbrain that on practically every quiz I've seen you take you try to start correcting people or get hot-headed about things. You start trying to argue and you get very nasty in your arguments, and you certainly assume you are right....hmmm...what is that they say about people when they assume?
I would prefer if you refrain from my quizzes as I don't like the negative atmosphere you bring in.
6-10 but # 4 is not correct it was president lincoln that gave her honary major status not the union army! though i chose union army casue lincoln wasnt a choice! other wise good quiz! hard but good! ![]()
what a great quiz! I got an F
and really never even thought of women fighting in the Civil War (and I am female). I knew they assisted in treating the wounded, etc. but never knew they sought to see combat.
I just wanted to mention to whoever submitted a correction concerning #5. It wasn't worded that way for any particular reason, however, hostage and prisoner are synonyms (http://thesaurus.reference.com/browse/hostage).
For that reason, either word would be acceptable.
I want to thank all those who have taken the quiz. and I want to thank those who have enjoyed it and one more thank you for leaving comments and letting me know! I appreciate the time you take.
