Brain Teasers
Return of the Great Snack Game
Situation
Situation puzzles (sometimes called lateral thinking puzzles) are ones where you need to ask lots of yes or no questions to figure out what happened in the situation. These are good puzzles for groups where one person knows the puzzle and answers the questions.Situation
Duffus's Snack game had become legendary at his home social events. Now even the adults wanted in on it. Duffus told everyone that if they could figure out his riddle they would get snacks, but if not they got none. As everyone gathered in the living room Duffus set out the rules. I will give you two lists of items. Then I will give you two items and you must tell me which list they belong to and why. Both items may go in the same list so think carefully.
List 1. Brass lamp; Gold watch; Silver spoon.
List 2. Stainless steel chisel; carbide saw blade; cobalt drill bit.
Items
A) Copper pipe B) Lead pipe
Now, many hastily answered thinking the items in list 1) were all related to precious metals, household things, or color; while others assumed the items in list 2) had to do with tools or wood working. But Duffus just kept shaking his head as he devoured bag after bag of chips. His guests grew more & more frustrated with every failed guess and started plotting their revenge (but that's another teaser). Fortunately Duffus's wife stepped up to save the day with the correct answer before Duffus had eaten all the snacks himself.
So which item(s) goes in which group and why?

Hint
Both may go in one group.Answer
All the items in "list 1" are made of non-ferrous metals (metals that don't contain iron). All the items in "list 2" are made with ferrous metals (metals that contain iron). So both items belong in "list 1" as lead & copper are non-ferrous metals.Hide Hint Show Hint Hide Answer Show Answer
