Brain Teasers
Tally-Ho
I was drinking champagne at a party, when someone came over and spilled a raisin into my almost full 20 ounce glass. It was shaped like a regular glass, though much larger. Two friends, who always quarreled, came up. The first one said that the raisin will sink, while the second said that the raisin will float. Who was right? The glass is still upright, and is flat on a table. It is also level.
Answer

This also works with ginger ale, and coke.
Any fruit in my champagne quickly sinks to the pit of my stomach. Good teaser!
I think you should explain your answer, especially as this is the science section.

i remember doing that experiment in kindergarden. it's fun!
Hey tish, are you old enough to be drinking champagne?
The reason it works is that the raisin has all sorts of little microscopic pits in it that can harbor tiny bubbles. As these bubbles get larger, eventually they get big enough and numerous enough that the bubbles lift the raisin to the surface. Once at the top, the bubbles pop and the raisin sinks, starting the process all over again. This also works quite well with one of those plastic push-pins.
i did the same experiment when i was in primary school, but we used sultanas and bicarb soda
The raisin WOULD sink, if it were not for those bubbles. Then it'd float, but at the top, the bubbles pop, and it sinks again.
