Brain Teasers
Different Perspectives
Language
Language brain teasers are those that involve the English language. You need to think about and manipulate words and letters.Language
You can actually view words from a different perspective. For example, number could mean getting more numb, while a butter could simply be a goat or a ram.
And now for the problem. What do you call a wicked thing?

I didn't get it! Can somebody explain this teaser for me?
Sure... a candle has a wick, so it is wicked (one syllable), not wick'ed (two syllables). Get it now?
Cute and fun. Thanks.
Brilliant, and most clever!
Thanks! I get it now. *hits myself on the head* Nice idea and cool teaser.

Oooh, Good one!
Great on, keep them coming.
Now I feel so stupid . I didn't get it until I saw Gizzer's explanation. BTW, thanks a lot Gizzer for explaining the answer I was actually trying to solve this on the wrong end... Anyway this is nice. Keep 'em coming
Great teaser!
Pretty easy, but a great teaser! Really makes you think about the word, first.
Very clever!
This brainteaser is cute, but I think that it perhaps thinking a little slower is the key. I am quite incapacitated and I managed to solve this puzzle with relative ease. Perhaps thinking slowly and clearly will help answer a number of life's questions.
Really enjoyed this one. Thanks
As a Mainer it was a Wick'ed good teaser. Easy to solve but fun
The possibilities are endless, Siver Sword"s answer is priceless. Absolutely one of the best teasers I've seen in a long time. Thanks for posting.
Great answer unless you try burning it on both ends
Very nice teaser. I had to give up and look at the answer. Added to favorites.
excellenty!
Oh, I like this one.
Good teasr I got it at first glance
Didn't get it..wick---ed
Gave me pause at first, but I got it!
ooooooo
Wow, that's was really really sneaky!!! I didn't get it, because of course, I was thinking of all the words that could mean "wicked" and also something else: "badder, no, eviler? no, deviler, no, uhhhh..." When I couldn't think of it, I had to give up. Amazing it never occured to me that the "two-meaning" word was already there!!!
Good job, very clever and simple yet difficult.
(and as usual, I don't believe anyone who says they got it, especially not right away! LOL! just kidding! )
(but I'm really not kidding actually, I kinda don't believe them... ROFL! )

gr8 teaser with good instruction and examples. FUN
It went right over my head...
I got it!
I was going for a "malaprop": a bad (mal) thing (prop). Mine fits a bit better, I think. (and, no, I wasn't thinking that "better" meant "a gambler!")
I thought for a bit about bad things, then I said to myself, candle?, and it was right. Great teaser. Thanks
This candle left me in the dark. I should go to the bottom of the class. It was so simple, but still eluded me all the same. Very good teaser, very good !! Thanks
I got this in like 2 seconds
Finally a teaser that was E-Z 4Me Good Job. THANX

I got it on my own. Wicked was the perfect clue. Thanks for posting. Loved it.

I got "oil". As in an oil lamp. It is the actual thing being wicked up to be burned. Good teazer. More Please.
oops slipped and hit the "z", kinda still works though
Very nice!
"malaprop" didn't work for anyone?
that was cool, great teaser
Nice teaser, for some reason it was very easy for me. I guess that just shows how different different people's perspective's can be!
I sat staring at the word "Candle" trying to figure out how to read IT differently. What a dumb bunny I am! Great teaser!
I immediately thought of a candle and a witch.
I thought a wicker basket... I heart this! It's fabulous!!!! Extra points!
LMAO
Nice I actually thought croquet (wick-ed sounds like wick-et).
Good teaser.
That is really good! I was looking at it backwards; so I didn't get it. I really liked it when I realized what the answer was.
Oh my! That was way too easy. Poor grammer on your clue. Plumber??
Very easy - but fun.
There is a candle shop near me called 'Wicked Things', so this was a piece of cake. Clever pun though.
GROAN!!! Oh, you got me with this one! Very clever!
Easy but fun!
Yes, it can be candle, but the answer can still be witch. Good teaser anyhow.
Loved it! Didn't get it though, very nice puzzle
I don't normally do this but...
(stands up) BRAVO! BRAVO!

Being a crossword puzzle afficionado, this was right down my alley. Easy, but I loved it.
I too was looking for an alternate word for wicked. Great teaser.

One of the easiest teasers I have ever seen. I know some teasers are easy for some and hard for others, but I did not think this one was in the brilliant category! Easy and fun and that is it for me.
I think this teaser is a "learning moment" for all of us (editors included).
It can be solved (if one does not have any other clue to the answer) only by making what is known in creative ideation as the "intuitive leap".
In this case the "leap" would be a "what if"; "what if" the word was ONE syllable and not TWO.
That is not a rational route to the answer (as so many Brainglers demand) and we should all be grateful to silver_sword for, again, reminding us of our intuitive capacities.
I wish I could rate it higher than a "3"!!!

Make that "over a 4" ....
Also, silver_sword has not been on Braingle for several years so if any of you are still in touch with them please give them thanks for their contributions. Their "Missing Street" (teaser # 11692) is also one of my all-time favorites.
Another example of solution by an "intuitive leap".

Hmmm...saw the answer, does wicked rhyme with "kicked."
Yes it does.
Ohhh! I was totally clueless until I read the explanation. I was thinking backwards. I thought the word "candle" was supposed to sound like something else that is wicked. So I was sitting there trying to understand the answer, saying "cannn... dle.... can, dull? Canned... el? Uhhhh..."
Good teaser after all

I know ... I know .... I've "been there".
If you want one that'll REALLY tie your mind-knickers in a knot, take at look at my "Buffalo", teaser # 48628.
When it was first sent to me I had my class working on it for a WEEK. Then one of my students took it to her "honors club" and they worked it out. None of us could do it.

I loved this puzzle. I thought it was clever. I got it right away and still thought it was fun. Thanks for posting!
Simple and fun!
Heh heh
Nice teaser thanks, although I came up with: "Bounder"?
Super clever. I really loved this one. Even though it wasn't incredibly difficult, I really had that "a ha!" moment when I figured it out. Nice job.
Oh duh. We were supposed to look at "wicked" from a different perspective. I thought the answer would be from a different perspective. I thought of the Wicked Witch of the East, and picked "Easter".
I was actually fun misunderstanding this one.

Fun, easy and entertaining teaser; I got it very quickly.
I love the teaser, and love my comments from 3 years ago. Bravo, me, great comment!
