More ways to get Braingle...

Language brain teasers are those that involve the English language. You need to think about and manipulate words and letters.

We've all seen a rebus like "midstuckdle" (stuck in the middle). The following clues are "revrebuseserse" (rebuses in reverse). That is, the clues below are answers to rebuses which all use the "in" construction.

However, the original rebus from the clues below will actually form a word. For example, "Not old in actually existing" would be "renewal" (new in real). Can you solve the rest?

1. A short poem in scarlet
2. A room-dividing structure in a female pig.
3. A joining word in a close friend
4. A head of corn in grasping tightly
5. Nothing in what your eyes do
6. A wild beast's shelter in stinking decay

Clever!

I don't care for the clue for verse, personally. I'd say "part of a song" would sound more accurate, but maybe thats just me.

Great, original teaser. Got 4 of them (reversed, swallow, senile, rodent) For the record, the definition of cling is not "grasping tightly", its "come or be in close contact with; stick or hold together and resist separation". Maybe you were confused with clench or clutch.

Rebuses (or is it rebi ?) are not really my thing. When I saw the answers, I thought oh, that makes sense! But I was WAY OFF in my responses.
Maybe next time!

Jun 18, 2014

Okay, this was a good teaser, and I got only two, but I think you should have used better words for "verse, grasping tightly, and close friend." None of the definitions actually fit those words. I believe that is why no one got them all or even any.
Very good try though.

YYUR. FYI: BadBunnee is not the oldest one on this site.

I found this teaser to be very confusing.

Jun 18, 2014

to Babe.

Not sure what your comment means.

"oldest" ?

Oldest in chronological age?

Oldest (longest membership member) still on the boards and responding?

I'm 79 years of age - if that info helps any.

and ... who (or what) is "YYUR" ?

BB02 -

Wow! You are so busy yipping and yapping and rambling on... and.. on ...and... on.. and on .... that you fail to pay an attention to ANYTHING ANYONE else has to say.
I have only been observing the site for about 3 months and I am well aware of Babe's age, as she has mentioned it more than once.

It is funny this has come up actually, as I was prepared to reprimand you for the obnoxious way in which you address her.

One would think that at your age, you would have been taught R-E-S-P-E-C-T for others, especially women and you elders. Babe qualifies in boh regards. You should be addressing her as ma'am and tipping your hat to her not speaking to her the way you do!

Were you my child, I'd be sending you to the woodshed to cut a switch.
YYURYYUB*mh
Jun 18, 2014

And to address your question to me, I was on here for a few years back (4-5 years ago) but have not been on in about 3.

I recently "rediscovered" the site and (as I said yesterday) after observing from the sidelines for a short time, decided to rejoin to allow myself the opportunity to comment and vote (as per your request).

My name was selected in your honour as it fits you. OR at least it fits the way in which you see yourself. Though I am sure there are some on here that would disagree!

Jun 18, 2014

Sorry Babe, I wanted to address His Royal Highness "The Baron of Braingle" before I addressed you.

I know that you are older than he is, but as my comments were more digs at his age than anything else, I didn't want to mention you in them.
I am sure you know what Carter's is too! Though I only know because referencing how many pills they had was a favourite comparison of my grandmother (who were she still alive would be 95 now).

Jun 18, 2014

Hey Doodles, Sorry for the rambling, but my intent is to show BOB (the Baron of Braingle) how annoying his ramblings are. Though I am sure it will be lost on him.

Hey BOB - am I annoying you yet?
Perhaps "BOB" should be "KORIE" - you are much too important a man to be a mere Baron. I think I shall promote you to KING!
You are now dubbed the "King Of Rebus" or KOR - then we add the ever affectionate "IE" to the name and VOILĂ€, we have KORIE.
BadBunnee02*us*
Jun 18, 2014

Howz 'bout we let the record(s) speak for themselves.

BadBunnee (the original, my Dad) had 35 teasers approved and posted, including the most popular "graphics" one. Treat me nicely and I'll send you the list.

BadBunnee02 (myself) have had 41 teasers approved and posted, including the SHORTEST Rebus on record (in this or ANY language webbie - EVER).

#50210

Beat it, match it .... (I'll even accept "come close") ... else ....

(I can't say it here .... )

ADDENDUM

Dad (original BadBunnee) submitted over 90 in order to get 35 "hits". that's about (let's say) 3-1.

I've submitted over 70 in order to get 41 hits (let's be generous and call it 2-1).

I GOT HIM BEAT !!!!!!!!!!!!

(I can just hear him gritchin' loudly - wherever he is ... [he HATED to lose])

So ......

(I repeat myself ....)

Match it, beat it .... or ... SHUT THE **** **)

Wow BOB, I apologise, I did not know I was standing here with such an amazingly talented individual.
You have had 41 teasers approved on a website! That is quite an achievement. Your family must be very proud of you...
All mine can brag about is my kids, my wife and my career.
I hope one day to be as successful as you are and be able to say "I write teasers".

BTW: You do know that your piddly 41 teasers you are so proud of pales in comparison to many others. You are not even in the top 10 of contributors!

1) cnmne has 815
2) MrIxolite has 529
3) Mad-Ade has 510
4) jazzmusician46 has 476
5) aresII has 316
6) fishmed has 271
7) MarcM1098 has 267
dalfamnest has 103
9) Thinksforfun has 74

And there are a LOT of fairly new contributors who have been on the stie much less time than you and have close to what you do!

Sorry, I've lost my train of thought... what was my point again?

Oh yeah, I didn't realise I was in the presence of such greatness with 41 teasers!

I don't really worship or idolise anyone, but, you sir have now become my hero!

BB02 - "Gimme time, sweetie ... I've just begun !!!!!!!!!!!!!"

Please don't call me "Sweetie", not that I mind, but it may upset my WIFE! (It would seem that though you often get on others about their observation skills, you failed to take not of the fact I am MALE.

And you are just getting started? You have been on the site since May 31, 2006. That is over 8 years! There are a few newbies that have only been on for a year or so who have almost as may teasers as you do!
Hey Snaps, I am sorry for the oversght. Once I got beyond where it tells you at the bottom who the top contributors are, I was just randomly searching names of members I knew had contributed a lot of teasers.
You do in fact belong in the top 10!
Which knocks BB02 down another peg!
Your title seems to be slipping away BOB!

BB02: "This is REALLY gonna tic most of you off ... 'cause you AIN'T on it."

I hope those who are "slighted" are able to deal with the rejection and don't go home and cry themselves to sleep tonight.

"Please don't call me "Sweetie", not that I mind, but it may upset my WIFE! (It would seem that though you often get on others about their observation skills, you failed to take not of the fact I am MALE."

Who said anything about not recognizing your malenicity ???

I merely said "sweetie" ... a common term of affection in my surrounds.

Or ... (hmmmm) ... is it because you have a bias against alternative forms of expressions of intimacy?

Maybe you should ease up and give it a try. Expand your horizons, loosen your outlooks, liberate your creativity !!!!!!!

Or perhaps you enjoy being hostile and negative.
YYURYYUB*mh
Jun 18, 2014

While I am quite familiar with the terms of endearment "sweetie" "honey" "dear" etc. They are not normally used (at least not in my circles) among people of the same gender.
I may address a female by any one of those terms, however I would never thing to call another male by one. I would call him "mate" "buddy" "pal" etc maybe even "brah" but not sweetie.
You were attempting to get under my skin and emasculate me. And I let you get to me, that is my fault. I should have just ignored it.

I apologise to the rest of the members and the moderators of the site for this show of immaturity on both our parts and assure you all, it won't happen again.
I however, unlike many before me, will not be chased away by BOB and his BadBunneeBrigade!
