Mrs. Botanee , the science teacher at Dandelion High School, held a "Nature is Remarkable" photo contest. The five prize-winning students were Carole, Charlie, Johnny, Oliver and Susan. The subjects they photographed were dewdrops, hummingbirds, red ants, a spider web and termites.
From the information given, determine the subject of each student's photograph as well as the order in which the five students finished.
1. The photo of termites received a higher prize than Johnny's photo but a lower prize than those of both girls
2. A girl took the photo of the spider web.
3. The boy whose photo won is not named Charlie and neither of these two boys entered a photo of either a hummingbird or red ants.
4. Susan's photo received a lower prize than the photo of red ants.

Johnny was fifth (clue 1) with a photo of a hummingbird (clues 2,4). Susan was third and red ants second (clue 4). Susan did the spider web. Carole was second. The answers summarized -

I liked it ! Good job! It was ez though.
Good puzzle. Not too difficult, but challenging enough for a daily teaser. Good job!
I thought this was a good teaser. Not really easy but it gets you thinking.
Not the best puzzle due to the wording of clue 3. Clue 3 implies that there are only 2 boys, while clue 1 implies there are only 2 girls. Taking Clue 1 as having overriding power due to precedence, clue 3 must be in error in number, thereby implying that NONE of the 3 boys took a photo of a humming bird or red ants. However, that would make the puzzle unsolveable since the girls photos would have to be BOTH hummingbird and red ants, AND inclusive of the spider web photo from clue 2. This causes Clue 3 to be totally open to interpretation as to which 2 of the 3 boys did not take the photo of hummingbird or red ants.
Alright at first, but clue 3 suggests that place was not the humming bird leaving this solution:1st-hb, 2nd:c-ra, 3rd:s-sw, 4th: c-t, 5th: j-dd.
I liked the teaser.. gets you thinknig and not much effort well done! .. and btw, ghardt, if i have followed your thoughts, I think the word "these" would solve your wonders..
Clue 3 is worded fine - you just have to pay attention. It's not implying ONLY 2 boys. Clue 3 mentions "the boy whose photo won" and "Charlie" - those are the "these 2 boys" in question. It does not say or imply these are the ONLY 2 boys.
Puzzle not difficult, but enough to make a good break from work!

In question 3 it says that charlie and one of the other two boys did not do humminmg birds or red ants, but which boy was it? this question left too much room for error by inffering that there where only 2 boys!
Logic problems aren't my favorite form of brain-teaser. This one is typical of the genre, more work than fun.
Question three was worded somewhat strangely, but it still makes sense, and if one actually pays attention to what he/she is reading, that person will be certain to find the correct answer. This was not a particularly hard logic puzzle, but harder than most I've seen on this site. Nice work.
There's too many teasers like this
its compleately stupid
I LOVED it! Good job!!
I liked this one. A lot of fun. Good job!
I loved it! I thought it was a great teaser. I did not have a problem with the wording in clue 3. That one was fine for me. because clue one had already elminated Johnny from winning, so if Johnny didn't win, and Charlie didn't win, then Oliver had to have won. My problem came from clue 1. I could not figure out the order. of the places. I had no problem with who did what photo, but which order came in. I rated it hard, but i think it was because I started it when I first woke up and then had some distractions. I quit and then came back to it a little while later, and it all just fell into place. So, it was not as hard as i thought. I don't think the wording should be changed at all. I think the wording, is what makes it challenging and interesting. I loved the story line and a challenge. It really was a lot of fun.
good teaser! although i expected it to be easy since it's a smallish one, it really got me thinking! keep up the good work
after 4 tries... i FINALLY got #3.. pfft
after 4 tries... i FINALLY got #3.. pfft
Great teaser! I had no problems with the wording at all. I got it on the first try! I thought it was rather easy, but fun to work. Not as simple as one might first think. Keep up the good work!
I got everything right except who took hummingbird/dewdrops and it was because of the wording in question 3. I tried to approach it "logically" and knowing that there were 3 boys but the wording just didn't make sense!
I thought it was much harder that it appears and rated...good job!
my first by this teaser maker and i found it to be hard but fun just had to read the clues more closer
I'm sorry, but I just can't picture a beautiful termite. I enjoyed the teaser though! Good job!
I enjoyed the puzzle; thank you for your efforts. I did not have a problem with the wording of the clues -- especially clue #3. I also think that those who did have a problem with the wording of clue #3, had faulty reasoning for their misunderstanding. You did a good job.
