CHALLENGE MATCH
Can you beat my record?
Can you come up with a list longer than my seventeen? I'll even allow lists with ONE-word answers as well as two-word answers, but the results must be common-phrases.
I've not been able to come up with a list longer than the seventeen above, so I expect this record will be here a ttttiiiiimmmmeeee
(that's a *long* time).
Take a shot at it. Post your entry here in comments or submit it as a teaser-challenge.

Questions?
Post them here, or PM me (click on my name).
Also, putting the answer-word (one OR two words) BEFORE or AFTER the listed words is permitted. But the result(s) still must be common-phrases.

NOT .... basically (as a fundamental part of my nature) but I thought this would be a good way just to SEE if there is a longer list.
it took a bit of thinking but i was determined not to let you beat me - i got it - eventualy- very good im off to try and beat 17 now!!!!
Hey badbunnee:
Really good one for first thing in the morning. I had the answer by the word brakes. I liked this! My first visit to language teasers and it won't be my last. Thanks for the suggestion referring me to All-time Record Language. I have always loved to play around with words!
Maybe I can think of 18? Ha..Ha.. Well, it's time to "Hit The Road For This Toad!"
Good luck dutchymonster beating this!

HA !
Got a couple of takers yet-so-soon-already.
OK, dutchy and froggy; side-bets, anyone???
I'll check with the editors and see if I can bet 10 of my points against 10 of either of yours that you can't beat me !!!!

Hey badbunnee:
I'm still working on my list but what about "hit the floor"? That means I added #18 to your list! Does that mean I met your challenge?!
Gotta get hoppin back to my list...ha! ha! ha!

Hey, froggy -
First, provide a web citation of SOME KIND or, if not that, a reasonable definition of what 'hit the floor' means, idiomatically, as a 'common expression'.
THEN ... we'll deal.

But what does "hit the sauce" mean?
'hit the sauce' = drink too much (booze). ... hic, hic ....
'Hit the floor' is what people do whent hey start dancing. It is also the title of a linkin park track.
psychedelictoad:
Thank you for your comment regarding hit the floor.
dumbell:
Thank you for your definitions of hit the floor.
Hey badbunnee:
Just read your PM referring me here. I did research hit the floor and found numerous articles containing "hit the floor" - just haven't had time to quote them to you.
Wow! I met my first challenge!!! Now this was REALLY fun and just what my ego needed. Maybe now I'll be brave enough to try to submit one of my own! By the way, I'm still working on my own list and if it gets past the editors, maybe we can talk challenge again!?!

Challenge ANY time !!!, froggy ...
AND ..... again, congrats !!!
BUT ...... no wagers .....
(only friendly ones)
I got a reply from the Eds. Turns out the points are not "mine" (to play with as I choose), but apparently belong to the "system" (or, at least, somebody else). Oh, well, maybe we could use poker chips, 'er somethin'.
CARRY ON !!!

Poker chips? I want to bet in sarts!!!
"hit the mark" or "hit the top" or "hit the Bottom" or "Hit the Wall" as used by runners to describe the pain threshold, or "Hit the button" or "hit the beach" or "hit the clubs" or "hit the note"...in fact the list is endless, good teaser, but extremely poor challenge.
Nice try, Maddie ...
But the "challenge" was actually in two parts:
(01) To come up with a DIFFERENT set of teasers using different headers than "hit the".
(02) To ADD TO the existing set of "hit the", which, of course, you did, to GAIN THE CROWN.
Now, the "hit the" group you added, making a grand total of twenty or so, was a good show .... BUT .... (actually) ....
The list IS endless. I've got about 60 (total) "hit the",s on my current list (not, of course, shown here) and, through assiduous search, have not added any more in a while. Wanna try?
If you wish to verify all this, I filed a PM with MrIxolite PRIOR to submitting this teaser. My intention was to "set up" the challenge precisely as it has run.
Anybody wanna beat Maddie?
It's still open.
OR ... Maddie ... try for the REAL challenge ... (01) above.

i got another one! i'm on a roll! I bow to badbunnee
I thought it was gonna be tough to do th original challenge, but as soon as I saw jackpot, I got it. Thanks badbunnee, good braintease!
That was the easiest one ever! I got it in like one second. Still pretty good, though!
No offense, but I think that was the most idiotic braingle I've seen yet.
Eeezy and relaxing at the same time...thanks!
actually it was probably more difficult than I rated it, but I just woke up 4am ast and it just hit me on the first try, first word so it must have come from my subconcious or something, Anyhow I really liked it and plan to re use it with friends,Thanks badbunee for a good one.
Good one! Enjoyed reading everyone's comments as well!!
nice one. it took a sec, but it came to me....
Clever teaser... I actually got this one, which boosts my ego a bit! Nice! Keep 'em coming!
It was easy, but I liked it. Makes my day go better when I get something right first thing in the morning.

"hit the fan" Isn't really a common expression without the addition of a third word preceding is it?
hey bunnee r u just over copetitive or plain unemployed whos got time to do nothing but come up with crappy lists like that
Probably phrases: (used elsewhere)
bedrock, turn, bullseye/goal/target/mark/milestone, corner (baseball) , sky (high prices), charts (become famous), edge (going nuts), minimum, max, redline (maxing out)
Maybe not phases: Hit the pocket (bowling), hit the gas, flop/river(Getting a card you want)
Not phrases (word for word IMHO) Hit the gym/track/field/clubs, hit the shot (backgammon & sports), clutch, summit/apex/zenith, shore/beach, windshield
Since I hate the phraze "in the zone" , I also denounce "hit the zone"

~GOOD JOB~
~GOOD JOB~
I think I like you brain_dead I didn't get it either. The directions were a bit weird. Once I saw the answer I read the directions again...still a bit fuzzy. But I guess everyone liked it so I agree, good job!!!
"hit the rack" is a term used by my tennis lesson teachers, i donno if it is real, but hey, just to givie a shot and Maddie, although your upa lotz your post was a brag!
What is "hit the skids"? skids?
what does hit the fan mean
bri78- - "hit the fan" is usually preceded by a profanity, and it means that someone's in a lot of trouble somewhere...
and swanee - i didn't think the phrase was "hit the zone" i thought it was "in the zone"
i got the answer by the first word, confirmed it on the second and didn't even read the rest to start with, although now i have read them i'm concerned that so many of the phrases mean the same thing - i think the challenge should be to come up with a list of words like that that all have different meanings...
