Fruit Or Orders
I am a word of two syllables,
But two meanings reside in us.
Though spelled differently, you might find,
The same that makes us two of a kind.
One is from a fruit, nut, or grain,
And when my shell is stuck, you might be in pain.
Then, one of us gives orders much,
And it can mean punishment and such.
Now, put together all you now know,
What are we? Do you know?

TOO CUTE!!!
That was a tough one!
I thought it was looking for just one word... and each of the two syllables had a definition. Too confusing.
i assumed that the word was the same word that was spelt the same and pronounced differently (eg, contract (written agreement) and contract (get smaller))....otherwise not bad! (unless you're french and pronounce it "col-on-el" rather than "cernal")
It was really hard i thought! fun but hard! oh would ya look at that gtg bye byez!
i agree with mark too confusing.
I think you may have made an error in your thinking.
you reference that one can mean punishment. Colonel punishment?
I think you were thinking of corporal punishment.

no
the "punishment" refers to the orders given by the colonel

I thought we were looking for one word, and that each seperate part of the word meant something. I liked it though.
