O E R D V B R A O
Language brain teasers are those that involve the English language. You need to think about and manipulate words and letters.
Using the grid below, how many words can you find? Each word must contain the central V and no letter can be used twice, however, the letters do not have to be connected. Proper nouns are not allowed, however, plurals are. There is at least one nine letter word.
O E R
D V B
R A O
Genius: 28 words. Excellent: 20 words. Good: 16 words. Average: 12 words.
HintLook at all the possible combinations, then see which ones make words.

| Tam ur my man! That was a great teaser, unlike some others that we have already had... Infact, it was so good you should celebrate! I recommend a pizza party. My only concern was that it was a little too easy. I got all the genious level words in like a minuet. Once again, congratulations and I hope you have a great time celebrating your wonderful teaser! NICE JOB!!

Mar 30, 2006
| A lot of you are not reading the "rules" I guess. It clearly states that EVERY work must contain a "V" so words like "bore" don't count. Also, OVERBOARD is ok since there are two "O's" and two "R's" in the letters provided so therefore you aren't using "the same letter" twice when spelling OVERBOARD. I thought it was a great teaser by the way. |

| Nice one.. not sure I would call it a teaser though. It's a nice mind puzzle.
I got 19 before I went to the internet anagram generator for some hints.. most of which were words I never knew existed ^_^
And yeah... some people need to read the rules a little better. Keep up the good work! |
jabdr
Mar 30, 2006
| Great teaser. I was getting so many words that I reread the rules (unlike others )) Then I realized the 'v' factor...Did better than some but nowhere near the genius level..Loved the concept |

| i was sorta rushed so i didn't get a lot, actually i got only 1, the word dove. |

Nice, but I think one is only limited by time on their hands, and by actually reading the rules. Some words were obscure but reachable, again, given the time to find them. |

Mar 30, 2007
| Man, I got overboard, but didn't realize that the letters didn't need to be connected to form a word.
But a fun teaser none-the-less! I've always been fond of word games! |
craniac
Mar 30, 2007
| What do you mean when you say "the letters do not have to be connected"??? In every word I know about, the letters are connected, except maybe hyphenated words. The rule that each word must contain the letter V was clear enough, but the rest of the instructions could have been clearer, I thought. |
leftclick
Mar 30, 2007
| We get these in a weekly newspaper down here in the antipodes. This one was actually pretty easy compared to some I've come across - I found "overboard" as soon as I looked at the letters. But then, I have had practice ;-) |

| A very fantastic and tough teaser! (No matter what everyone else is saying about this teaser, you did a great job of stating that the letter V will be used in ALL of the answers.! ) Keep up the fantastic work Many of us can enjoy the workout! |

| I got my 12, including BRAVADO. A good teaser. |

| What about VERBRADO ? |
feste
Mar 30, 2007
| I had a problem with the instructions. Although I got 20 words I didn't include some that I thought were variations of the same word but were included in the answers and if I had made plurals which were permissable I could have nearly doubled my score. Other than that I enjoyed the puzzle very much. |
kauphi1976
Mar 30, 2007
| nice one. I started realin out the words and then my 'a-d-d' kicked in and i went off to something else. I kinda like these puzzles where there are fewer words to be made but much harder to get so you need to think thru each word.
fun though

| Good teaser, lots of fun. I didn't think that acronyms & abbreviations like AVE & VAR were allowed. I'm not familiar with VOE either, tried looking it up and didn't find a def. |

Mar 30, 2007
| Very good. Have to remember that all words must contain the "v". I found lots more including drover, ravel, eve, ever...all confirmed in dictionaries... |

| I do not understand how so many people can try this teaser when they clearly cannot even read! The directions are clear as day. There are only 28 correct answers and they are all listed, and yes, they are all real words. PLEASE, read directions before you post a comment!!
Great teaser Tammy |

| Nice teaser... But you missed a word.
Verbrado: It's a musical term. When a person's singing or playing some sort of instrument, it's the term given to the kinda shaking sound that's there sometimes. |
composer
Mar 30, 2007
| I didn't get ave(either abbreviation for avenue or the Latin word [as in "Ave Maria"]), aver (no idea), bravoed (is there a past tense of bravo?), deva (I thought it was "dIva"), drover (say what?), rev (this never seems to be a real word to me term. ), var (abbreviation for "variation?"), or voe (clueless).
BTW
The musical term is "Vibrato." |

| great teaser, but please define for me: var, voe, deva, and the plurals people have cited. Thank you. |
scallio
Mar 31, 2007
| I was curious about why the letters were put in a grid when they could be in any order provided a V was included. Made me feel I must have been doing something wrong.
This teaser was somewhat easy, but I didn't even know a few of those words existed! Like voe and var?? Odd.
Great teaser |

| I thought they all had to start with the central "v" so its no wonder I only got two. Maybe I should read the directions better. |
j9mattfield
Apr 19, 2007
| Fun for me! Got 16 and decided time to move on. Using the "V" in every word was tough, but grateful for the two "O's" and "R's." Found myself wishing for an "L" many times. Thanks! |
Qrystal
May 02, 2007
| This was fun! I got 20, 19 of which were on the list. The one that wasn't was "REBAR" (used to reinforce concrete). I also spotted the word "DROVED" at dictionary.com when I was checking whether "ROOVED" was a word, and clicked on it to see what it was .. and noticed there was a DROVER that worked with this puzzle (DROVED doesn't, because of the two D's). So I'm not counting that one, but if I did count it I'd have 21.
I have to "doh!" over ABOVE and OVERDO. WHooooOOps!
The others I didn't get were all confirmed by dictionary.com: ave, aver, deva, overbroad, var, and voe. To anyone who is unsure of meanings of any of the words: look 'em up! |

Mar 30, 2010
| Good teaser - though aren't there more than 28 words? here's a few i thought of (depends on the context of the dictionary though)
arvo -afternoon
avo -A subdivision of currency, equal to a 1/100th of a Macanese pataca
bevor - A bevor is a piece of plate armour designed to protect the neck, much like a gorget. A bevor can be made of a single solid piece or multiple .
drave - Simple past of drive
vade - To fade; hence, to vanish. |

| Not using the same letter twice should have been explained better, like don't use the same letter twice in one word. Lots of us were confused on that one, but I just went ahead as it seemed impossible the other way.
Cute though |
HABS2933
Mar 30, 2013
| Not using the same letter twice is par for the course in this type of teaser. The middle letter usage was also explained in the rules and again is not an abnormal requirement in these puzzles. The freedom to use any letter was nice as I have usually seen it played much like Boggle - in that the letters had to be connected.
A good teaser - I didn't sit and find them all as being a holiday weekend and expecting 25+ people at my house tomorrow, I am a bit pressed for time. |
gaylewolf
Mar 30, 2013
| Excellent teaser. I thought I was brilliant as I got 35 easily, but I neglected to notice the "each word must contain the letter "V" " comment. Thanks for a good one! Nicely done!
