Logic-Grid
Logic Grid puzzles come with a handy interactive grid that will help you solve the puzzle based on the given clues.Logic-Grid
For their birthdays, 5 girls each received a cat as a present. Each cat was a different color and age, and was given by someone very close to the girl. Find out which cat belonged to which girl, what its name, age, and color were, and who sent each cat.
Girls: Lisa, Michelle, Nicole, Olivia, Paula
Cats: Cinnamon, KitKat, Midnight, Tiger, Tunafish
Colors: White, Brown, Black, Ginger, Striped
Ages: 2 months, 6 months, 9 months, 1 year, 2 years
Senders: Mom, Dad, Brother, Sister, Best Friend
1. No girl shares an initial with their cat.
2. Nicole's sister doesn't like stripes, so Nicole received a cat half the age of Paula's, but a little older than Tunafish.
3. The 5 girls are: Lisa, the one with the 2-year-old cat, the girl who owns KitKat, the girl whose dad bought a cat, and Michelle.
4. The white cat is 9 months old.
5. Michelle's cat has a "fishy" name, while Lisa's is named for a spice.
6. Each girl gave their cat a meaningful name.
7. Paula has been deathly afraid of tigers since she was little.
8. The 5 cats are: Tunafish, the 2 month old cat, Nicole's cat, the one given by a friend, and Olivia's cat.
9. Michelle is an only child.

I was a little disappointed that the colours matched the names. It could have been more challenging if they hadn't.
This is the cat's meow! Love it! It looked impossible until I finally caught on. Good one!
I liked it. The colors matching made it a little interesting becuase you had to trust your own judgement. I was hesitant on the ginger vs. brown, but guessed right and got it first try. Was a cute story too. All in all, pretty good puzzle
Sorry, I have to say that the puzzle required too many assumptions. Assumptions are not logic. The fact that you have to "guess" what goes with brown (aren't both KitKats and Cinnamon brown??), means that it is not a good teaser.
i agree with scihead...shouldnt assume on logic questions...enjoyed it though!!!
I think you two are misplacing the judgement idea alittle, cinnimon is not brown it is brownish red which by my reconing is ginger. not to mention that ginger and cinnimon are both a spice and the puzzle didn't say that the cats are named for there color but only that they have meaningfull names. so if you can't tell I loved the puzzle bring more of those beutiful logics to me.
As a point of clarification, the cinnamon/brown problem was far from the only assumption required. I was only using it for purposes of illustration. Here is another example. The clue says that "nicole's sister doesn't like stripes. From this we are supposed to determine that:
1. Nicoles sister bought her a cat.
2. Nicoles cat does not have stripes. Both of these are assumptions. Even if 1 were told outright, number 2 would STILL be an assumption. (afterall, what if Nicole loves tiger cats? Wouldn't her sister maybe get her one, even if she would not choose it for herself?
I realize this may seem picky, but logic is logic and assumptions are not compatible!!!

Sorry about the double post. I went back in my browser and somehow it re-posted. Opps!
To many assumptions but never mind, you can't really do the thing with the colours becuase different people will interpret colours differently
I'll make sure to put better clues next time...thanks for the comments!!!
I don't think you could have solved all the categories if the colors didn't match the names. I do think those are best "guess" conclusions, and don't always fit with a logic grid. However, I thought it was really fun and I got it all right. My mind must work like yours if I assumed the same things. I had no idea Tuna should be white, tho. I kept looking for Snowball.
yea, the color assumptions got me too..mainly the white for Tuna, but it was the only color that was left..
It was hard but fun
I really like it. It was hard and it took me a while but I finally got it.
It cool but because it was so long it was boring.
Try to not put as many topics, and make it a little more right to the point. But make it still unclear enough we don't know it right away, and then you'll have it!!!

There is no need to assume on the white cat, the age of the white cat is given.
Thanks DREEK, most of the so-called "assumptions" are clarified in other clues.
I really enjoyed this one!! Good job!
fun, but tough. tried it twice before I quit but, keep em comin. I thought it was clever that you put that the names were meaningful. It took me awhile to realize what that meant. I had fun, but now my brain hurts.
I enjoyed this one, especially having to go back for that one little clue regarding the cat's ages. Good job.
Thanks everyone
THINK people....a KITKAT bar is BROWN cinnamon is much closer to ginger than brown!! If you didnt like stripes would you get your sister a cat with srtipes named Tiger that you would have to see every day??? Logic includes knowledge of human nature as well as what some seem to think as PURE logic!! All of which goes to say GOOD JOB!!!! Keep the cat puzzles coming
thanks, Dave
My FAVORITE one so far! GREAT job. The colors of the cats were so easy and I liked the clues about the five girls and the five cats. VERY GOOD.
I was able to tell the color of each cat before I even looked at the clues. Although I am upset that I had a special moment and couldn't figure out that said kitkat until I looked at the colors in the first paragraph. Great teaser
Another way to look at it DaveC is that these are hypotheticals, so real world stuff is left out unless implied by the question.
Nicole's sister even being mentioned leads one to logically conclude (Some call this assuming) that Nicole and Sister were part of the answer together. The fact that the sister doesn't like stripes means that stripes and Sister are NOT part of the same answer regardless of human nature.

Fun and easy! I personally liked and enjoyed this one (and I didn't even have to use the hint). Great teaser, Winner!
This was a great teaser. I thought the clues were fine. At first, I had a little trouble with which cat was brown and cinnamon, but I figured it out using logic and common sense. Nice Job!
I got it right but I had to guess about the striped cat. Yes - I read #7 but as an owner of striped cats, they look nothing like tigers! I've had many brown & gray striped and currently have a drak gray/light gray striped so I thought 7 was a littel misleading. Plus I also thought Paula could be trying to overcome her fear of tigers by getting a striped cat. But I decided to go with what I "assumed" the writer was saying which isn't the right way to do these. Oh well...
another five star teaser from one of my fav 5 logic -grid makers ...only been here a few weeks but i lub this place
I think this is the best and cutest logic puzzle I have ever seen and I like it when you have to guess a little it makes you think about it longer and harder.Well done
Thanks a lot, everyone! I'm glad you all liked it.
seemed like fun..but I think Braingle is confused by it i typed 'death' into the search engine (looking for a hard murder mystery) and got this..
well, good job anyway! my kitty's name is Mr. Mistoffelees--any guesses as to his color?

I agree that I didn't really like the clue giving away the colors, but having to cross reference the two "list" clues more than made up for it. Really got my brain going today! Thanks
The reason this is not a 1/4 difficulty is because oth the necessary assumptions. Not appropriate for a logic grid.
