Brain Teasers
Cryptoxymorography
Cryptography
In Cryptography teasers, a phrase or expressions has been encoded in some way (frequently by replacing letters with other letters). You need to figure out the encoding method and then decode the message to find the answer.Cryptography
Oxymorons are words with opposite or incongruous meanings that when linked together, form a descriptive phrase.
Cryptography teasers are teasers in which a phrase or expression has been encoded in some way.
Cryptoxymorography teasers are teasers in which oxymorons are concealed in a cryptic mass of letters.
Can you decipher the oxymorons? They all use the same code.
1. oqh bohifozzm

3. por ziqy

Oh boy, this is great! Good going swaffy, love it, love it, love it! More are on the way i hope!
Another Great one bigSWAFF, I love these I love to catch someone saying oxymorons (like cheap Rolex) KEEP THESE COMING PLEASE!!!
nice! i liked it when i edited it...
good teaser, but I stink at cryptograms
Nice, I enjoyed it. One thing though, #4 should read: Qwjwz Kof...you left out the z
I hadn't seen a teaser like this before - I really like it.
Am I the only person that feels like a moron when I look at these teasers? I have no idea how to go about solving them.
Then read my study guide!
The best way to do it (or the way I solve them) is to open up some writing tool. (Notepad, Microsoft Word, etc.). Then copy down the teaser (this will make it so you don't have to go back and forth)
If there are any clues in the teaser (Like "A is represented by Z") fill all those in (be sure to bold them, to know they are correct)
Keep doing this, and fill in simple words, like "the". Then, fill in all the letters using those letters.
Do this, until you have a lot of it done, then it is basically a guessing game. Think of words that "fit together", and try and solve it.

Cryptograms are hard... The only way I can think of to do it is to try to figure out what one word is. Then you can (if you're not stupid) figure the whole thing out from that word (if it's not a one-letter word haha).
Good job, Swaffo. (and also a good job on the [at first] unreadable title.)

I'll tell you how I did it....I made a list showing how many times each letter was represented. Then I circled which letters showed up the most. E happens to be the most popular letter in the english language and so the letter with the highest number next to it is probably standing in for e. Yada yada yada, you get the whole code.
*Giggle* I love cryptography!
...Why aren't these in the Crypt. section?

Wow this was pretty cool.. i will admit that i didn't get any of them, but i love reading oxymorons.. like civil war.. i haven't really noticed that one, but here's a new one: Jumbo Shrimp
I think Cryptoxymorography II has "Jumbo Shrimp" on it
What's wrong with "bad luck"? Surely luck can be bad or good? If it wasn't for bad luck, I wouldn't have any luck at all!
Great Teaser But I agree W/ Cdrock I stink whenever it comes to criptogrophy.
Oooh, very tough! No way I'd have gotten it without the hint. These were tougher than the typical cryptograms because no sentences. You couldn't look for THE, I & A. And what's more is that you had 4 sets of double letters in these: L, E, T and D, yet no sentences to help figure out which double was what letter! Great job scrambling our brains with this one!
NOT VERY DIFFICULT.
I WANT TO SEE SOME REASONING
THIS ONLY REQUIRES SOME GUESSING AND TRIAL AND ERROR. I WANT TO SEE SOMETHING THAT REQUIRES REASONING, BUT THAT'S JUST ME.

Not too hard. I wish there hadn't been clues inherent in the cipher: the use of the first letter of each line o p q r s to imply that those letters corresponded to a b c d e. I just treated it like a random substitution cipher, used frequency analysis, and looked for the most common oxymoron first: deafening silence, which unlocked the entire puzzle.
This would've been really cool if the code was mixed up randomly and not just two alphabets in their normal sequence offset against each other. I only had to figure out one of the oxymorons and then I immediately saw how the code was generated and getting the other nine was just busy work. A nice idea though!
I'm really not good at all at this kind of teaser.
I really hate this knid of teaser becasue it really doesn't take much skill to do them. I like the ones when you actually need skill and think, like the mystery, but thats just me! Good job though
this is a good one...
Kewl teaser didnt solve it it cud have been better if u made the thing more clear i didnt understand wat to do tats y but i luv these kinda teasers nice job
This kind of teaser takes too much time and thought. One of these days I'll be able to spend the time and figure one out.Meanwhile, great job.
Hi guys! I'm new to posting, but I've been doing the braingles for a while now. Cryptography puzzles are some of my favorites, especially when they involve language/semantics. Thanks for the diversion!
P.S. If it wasn't for "bad luck", some of us would have no luck at all!

how r we supposed 2 have an hour 2 figure out a stupid brain teaser?! its impossible! next time...sumthin a little easier!
Nice one! Hope more are coming soon!!!!
Nice one! Had it done in 20 min! Cryptograms are my faves. I'ts not impossiable, just look for the clues loke double letters towwards the end of a large word are usually LL followed by Y. once you have one oxymoron it goes pretty fast Hope that helps.
What a great teaser. All you gave us were the vowels so I don't see why some people had to figure out the number of times a letter was repeated - we had the most imporatant ones. Sure it took some time and thought, but that's what it is all about folks. As Iteachkids always says,"A brain is a terrible thing to waste-lose." or whatever. Great teaser, Swaff, more please?
I'm no good at these.
Thanx anyway ..swaff
Loved these oxymorons! Could guess # 4 as bitter sweet from the combination of letters given. The rest was a bit of guess work and patience. All the same, cant ignore the good amount of thought that has gone into making up the teaser. Good show.
Just didn't have the time available to put into this one - but it looked like it would have been fun.
Absolutely Fantastic! I love challenges and these opposites and opposites, with some reasoning and logic are fun to solve. I work crytos....quite a bit & these were totally Awesome. Puzzles of this form are challenging for ALL individuals, even though many younger people want others to think that these are *too simple*. Don't believe them, they are jealous because they can't figure these out quickly. Keep up the terrific work! There are enough people, who enjoy doing these puzzles, that will keep you going. Listen to the praises.
huh??
i dont get that. damn!! i just accidently unsubscribed my self!! nooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo!!

Of course, when I'm gone I get a Teaser of the Day.
Thanks for all the comments.
For those of you who think it is needed to post how much you hate Cryptogrophy: there is a search function on Braingle, use it. You don't have to read Cryptography puzzles if you don't want to. Fine by me if you feel you have to rate my teaser as low as possible, doesn't bug me a bit, however, if you don't like them, don't read them, don't rate them.

What a cool twist! Cryptography isn't my strong point (mainly becasue I am lazy) but I love mixing the oxymorons in!
Liked your "study guide." I keep a notebook & pencil by my computer, but often copy the teasers to Word - whatever works. Cryptography isn't for everyone - they take a bit more time. But thankfully there's something for almost everyone on Braingle. Keep up the good work, Swaff. I am really impressed that you have the mental capacity to produce so many brain teasers AND keep up with your studies. Amazing!
