I think it's a shame that this wasn't accepted with the original answer. A road seems a more universal answer. Oh well, it's still a good riddle.
I agree =)
I think it could have been a road or sidewalk. Either answer would fit. Good job in writing in it. I thought it was fun, and not that easy to solve. (I did guess road first ) Hope to see more from you as well.
pretty good
it confused me I'm sure it was mostly my brain but it didn't make much sense to me. o well
Ok well heres a little breakdown of it...
*From house to house he goes, (a sidewalk leads to every house and past them)
*A messenger often small and slight. (pavements are a lot thinner than roads and allow us to carry messages to one another on foot. They aid communication.)
*And whether it rains or snows,
He sleeps outside at night. (its only outside)

what about a car??
cars can be in garages. - not always outside
It's pretty good, I just never thought of a slab of concrete as being small and slight.
its not so much the slab its talking about, it means in comparison to something bigger like a road. pavements can often be narrow and winding, which makes them look elegant and slight.
Very good.
@k8ly, well in that case an elephant is "small" compared to say an airplane. Or a 5000 square foot house is small compared to a 200 suite apartment. Not many people would call those small just because there's something bigger though.
How does a sidewalk "sleep"? Adenosine and melatonin trigger it for them like it does for us?
Mouse seems like a better answer. They go from house to house obviously, not stuck in our yards like dogs are.
Most of us would agree mice are small.
As they're running around, they release pheromones to "message" other mice.
Although they seem to prefer sleeping in my garage, most of them sleep outside.
