These kind are always fun
Thanks Sputnik
I concur. These are fun. More please.
birds? babies? what's the theme? i didn't get it. maybe i'll get the next one
McBobby, by changing one letter in each word you should have made a list of birds. 'Bird species' was the common theme here. Better luck next time.
Wonderful quiz, got it right away am so proud
I never heard of a yaffle!
Mosca: a yaffle is another name for a green woodpecker. I hope this helps.
It was a good quiz, but I didn't come close to figuring out the main theme! Happy Weekend, friends!
I did not get it either. I was removing a letter, not changing it. It would have made no difference I never heard of some of those birds. Ho Hum! Glad some enjoyed it. Maybe next time. Maybe you should give a category like saying, "It's a bird!"

This was way over my head.

I must admit that the birds were flying over my head.Had no clue.
Well, I am somewhat of a birdwatcher so I knew most of them, but yaffle got me to. At least I learned something.
Yaffle! Yaffle! Yaffle! It feels funny in the mouth I couldn'y ever possibly have managed this. Great teaser.
For some reason I got this one right away. Curlew gave it to me, but yaffle stumped me.
I got the theme from the first word, but only managed to get five of the birds.
I got curlew and petrel right off, so knew the theme was bird species -- I have birder friends, though I'm not one myself -- but couldn't even guess at some of the other names. Does that justify a "hard" rating? That's what I gave this teaser, especially because of yaffle. But it was fun, interesting, and educational. All told, I liked it.
I started with "OIL" figuring the number of words it could be changed into was limited.
First I thought "Ail" but could not figure out how to get any of the other words to work with that. The next logical step was owl and the rest was easy.
Of course I suppose it requires a working knowledge of birds.

very challenging, very creative, very interesting.
(all that means is that I didn't do very well on it) ....
but .... I guess a working knowledge of birding would help work with whatever works.

Simple except for yaffle
I see why now; we don't have yaffles here in the U.S.
I got all except Curlew and Yaffle. Back to the bird book.
I wasn't even close on this one. But I learned a few things. Thanks for posting!
I found the theme easy, the bird names as well, except for 'Yaffle'?
It was fun though thanks!

Enjoyed the quiz; I was able to figure out the "bird" theme but only got four of them - never heard of the other four so I learned something new.
I'm with mrbill. Next time, how about a theme more of us are familiar with. Thanks for posting.
I figured out all but two. I think I've heard of a petrel, but not sure what it is, and I've definitely never heard of a yaffle. I like the fact that the puzzle creator used several less-than-common bird types.
That was a fun puzzle thanks Jazz; I too love birds BTW!
No 'Yaffies', in Australia either.
