One Special Day
Riddles are little poems or phrases that pose a question that needs answering. Riddles frequently rhyme, but this is not a requirement.
Every one hundred years
as the song has it,
I appear but for one day,
one special day,
where the heather grows.
One could stay
but none could leave
less the miracle would be broken.
What am I?
Hint"Down On MacConnachy Square".

Answer
I am the mythical Scottish town of Brigadoon. It appears for one day every one hundred years. In Lerner and Loewe's play, the Scottish village of Brigadoon was put under a spell centuries ago. This village remains unchanging and 'invisible to the outside world except for one special day every hundred years, when it could be seen and visited by outsiders'. According to the spell, a visitor might be allowed to stay, but if anyone ever left Brigadoon, the miracle would be broken and that would be the end of Brigadoon. "Down On MacConnachy Square" is a song by Alan Jay Lerner and Frederick Loewe from the musical. The story is originally from a German tale.

| I don't know why I remembered it but I had it from the I appear once every hundred years. This film to me was a wonderful as Wizard of OZ but I never dreamed I would see it in a teaser. Great job! |

| Years ago, in German class, I read a story called 'Germelshausen' and later heard it had been the basis for 'Brigadoon.' I don't know if that is eally true, but someone's theory. The stories are similar, but the location is different. |
