Very good. Roman numerals never entered my mind. I did get the two score though (thanks Abe).
I don't think I would have ever figured this one out. Roman numerals just don't come to mind as a rule. Great riddle and you sure got me. Thanks for posting.
Great quiz, I just didn't get it.
I got 10 + 24 (3/5 x 40) + 500 = 534, which didn't ring any bells.
Never thought of Roman numerals. Was out in left field.Directions could of been better.
Verrrrrry clever! This one was a toughie, and I was way off, but I liked it anyway.
SSVillalobos, my sentiments exactly! VERY clever teaser - and I was way off, too! Thanks for a good one!
Romans and countrymen, lend me your brains!
GOOD..
I got it a different way
O-X-XXIV-D..which 'rightly conjoined' can give you
O-XXX-FOUR-D = OXFORD

Much too tough for me, but I did enjoy the struggle.
Really good! It needs a hint, though.
I was with craniac; I got the total 534, and unlike many others I DID think of Roman numerals, but DXXXIV didn't say anything!! You mixed Roman and the WORD FORTY, and THAT I couldn't have thought of!!!
a hint would have been helpful and much needed.
Oxford is also a shoe!
I was with craniac too. 534
Good one!!!
