Ms. Liandas assigned each of her students a book report on their favorite book over spring break and told them to email it to her. However, due to a glitch in the system, she lost the emails as well as the grades of 5 of her students. Help her remember each student's last name, the book they did their report on, and the grade they got on the report.
Students: Linda, Maria, Cindy, Justin, and Alex
Last names: Kooper, Amana, Oriz, McMan, and O'Brian
Books: Tithe, Twilight, Harry Potter, The Great Gatsby, and Vampire Kisses
Grades: 98%, 85%, 81%, 70%, and 68%
Clues:
1. The 5 students were Cindy, the one who read Twilight, the one who got a 70%, Ms. Kooper, and the one who read The Great Gatsby.
2. The gender of both boys is contained in their last name.
3. Ms. Liandas remembered that two of the girls had a strange vampire fixation, always coming to school with fake fangs glued to their teeth.
4. Neither of the boys did very well on their reports.
5. Ms. O'Brian was always the top of her class.
6. Linda Oriz did better than Maria but worse than Cindy.
7. Ms. Liandas remembered that Alex dressed up as the wizard from his favorite book for costume day.
8. Justin was always more interested in classical literature than the other students, which was shown in his book report.
9. Mr. Amana always teased Cindy about her fairy obsession, to which she retaliated, "Why don't you go kiss Mr. Gatsby?!"

this was confusing but im not that great at logic puzzles
It was an interesting puzzle. However, you had to know movie content. I had to research what was in the movies "Twilight" and "Tithe" to figure the puzzle. Also, the fact that they did not do "well', does not necessarily mean that the boys got the worst scores.
Although they are books and not movies, I put what they are about in hints knowing that not everyone would know what they are about ^_^. Also, it does mean they would get the worst scores. I thought this over with myself when I wrote this. At least in the grading scale I've used, 80-89 is a B and 90+ is an A. Anything less than that, in my opinion, is doing not well. I'd think most people would agree with that. 70 is a really low C and 68 is a D, which are both not good grades.
I accept the books/movie comment. However, you say it yourself.."in my opinion". Logic puzzles are not about opinion, they are about facts.
It is a fact though. A "C" is considered average and a "D" is considered below average, both are not very well scores. Each other score is well, considered only not well by people who wish to fail at school. It's a logic grid and that is logically figured out.
Awesome quiz! This is the reason I love logic grid puzzles. Keep it up.
I was the type of person that a B would have been "not doing very well" so I feel that clue is inaccurate, as it does not conclusively mean that they have the lowest scores.
You guys can stop commenting on that one little hint that is easy to assume what I mean, considering there is no way I can find to edit it to word it for those people who are perfectionists and think getting a B is a bad thing. B or higher is passing, heck even a C is (although I wouldn't consider a C average like some people think, B is average to me). It's easy to assume that I mean they got the lowest scores, considering the gap in percents and because to most people, a B is a good thing. But like I said, I cannot find a way to edit it therefor there is no reason to comment on that one part. Please don't.
I thought this was a very good teaser, and the popularity score reflects that. As for the boys not doing very well - I knew that meant they got the lowest scores, because 81, the next lowest, is a decent score. Hope you submit more Logic-Grids.
I agree that not doing well means lowest scores...especially when everything above the 70% score was decent. Great Logic-Grid!! I had to go back a couple of times to figure out who read the two vampire books.
I am glad you had the books explained in the hints, as I wasn't familiar with two of them (three actually, but as it had "Vampire" in the title...)
I had to make a few assumptions to solve this, but it was fun and the clues were interesting.

That was AWESOME! I got it right and I was so proud of myself
The reason people keep commenting about the "not doing well" hint is because it is very opinionated, and to people who normally get F's, maybe a C is doing well. You should change it to "The boys got the worst grades."
GO HARRY POTTER!
Cool teaser........interesting but hard

i agree with harrypotter--just change the clue to "the boys received the worst grades" and there will be no more complaining..unless it's about reverse discrimination or something.
also, i don't believe the great gatsby is a classic but you don't need that clue anyway. you also don't need the clue about the girls wearing vampire teeth to school.

shoot--i meant, i agree with friesaregood
(and the evil face isn't b/c I'm mad; it's a vampire)

It's been a while since I've been here ^^ If anyone does my teaser in the future, just fyi I know that I should have been clearer (I couldn't see it before, but I definitely see where the confusion can come from now). However, there's still no way for me to change it that I can see.
