avonma Apr 18, 2009	I finally came up with a "period," but then I realized it must be a "comma." You "pause" there and usually take a breath; and you are more likely to miss a comma than a period. Good one! Thanks!

mamalemma Apr 19, 2009	Without the hint, I think you could reasonably make a case for a colon or semi-colon, as well. I love the idea of grammatical teasers; it would be nice to tighten up the clues a bit to rule out all but one answer.

eamon Apr 18, 2012	I pretty much agree with what mamalemma said above and include a dash (-) too. It is better to eliminate a myriad of equally good answers to any puzzle. As is, this one's just okay.
craniac Apr 18, 2012	"Help you when you list" was the clue that cinched it that this was a comma we were talking about -- you separate items in a list most often by commas. And if you were ever an English teacher, the parts about "missed" and "misplaced, misused" were instant clues -- missing commas are one of the most common mistakes made by young writers.
