Golf Bag

Situation puzzles (sometimes called lateral thinking puzzles) are ones where you need to ask lots of yes or no questions to figure out what happened in the situation. These are good puzzles for groups where one person knows the puzzle and answers the questions.

During a golf competition, Paul's ball ended up in a sand trap inside a little brown bag that had blown into the course. He was told that he must either play the ball in the bag or take the ball out and incur a 2 stroke penalty. If he took the ball out, he would lose. What did he do?

Answer

To deliberately ignite the paper bag would interfere with the lie and incur penalty. So, while he pondered the problem, he smoked a cigarette. Then he discarded the cigarette onto the bag and it burned. No penalty was incurred.

according to the rules of golf the paper bag is not a natural obsticle so therefore he would be able to take a drop with no penalty
