You have two tasks in order to solve this teaser:
01. Determine what all eight of the words below have in common.
02. Prove your assumption by adding something to each word.
bell, billy, charley, hill, hunt, tom, white, with

Maybe this was easy ....
Maybe it was fun ....
BUT ... the REAL "challenge" is ....
Can you come up with other trigger words that can be made into two-word common phrases in the same genre with no duplication previously in this teaser body OR the comments.
The Braingler with the MOST new contributions by midnight Monday, May 12 will win a significant award.
I'll begin .... here are three new ones:

The "answer" to these three new ones is, of course (by adding an "animal" word);
lap dog, dog leg, cow lick
Can you do four new ones?
Add them below - with or without the "animal" word.

Terrific !!!!!!!!!!
I count 70 (I'm disallowing one of play/playing possum as a "duplicate").
For those of you interested, I had to look up "dog's breakfast" and "lamb's ears".
You can, too, if you wish (or any others in doubt).
OK .......
Next ????
MARC is declared the "lead" - at this point. Midnight Monday is DL.
and 'challenges' (to my decision(s) is free) .... you might not win it, but it's free.

Just my opinion BB, but the fact I PAY for a membership helps the site more than whether or not I comment on every teaser and/or quiz I take.
There are some that are really not worth commenting on, as the saying goes "If you can't say anything nice ....." and don't see the point sometimes of commenting on a teaser whose creator has been absent from the site for 5-10 years.
In my opinion once a member has been gone for 1 year their profile should be deleted along with their contributions. This clears up space for new members to create new material. Since you cannot submit repeats it is sometimes hard to come up with unique and interesting material that has not been covered in the past. This is more true of the quizzes than the teasers though.

to HABS ....
I like your thoughts, here. I can recall SEVERAL years back a conversation (here ... in the comments on one of the teasers or, perhaps, in private communications ... I'll try to find it) on this very subject.
Gist was to establish an "archive" file which would contain "older" teasers as well as, perhaps, ALL teasers from Braingers no longer in attendance for "x" years.
To remove older material - just as you suggested above - but the archive file would still be accessible for those interested in reading the "oldies-but[maybe, some]-goodies".
Jake (owner-operator of Braingle) and some of the Eds said they would consider it. Never heard a word about it.
And I'm not sure how "policy" - and other such changes - are derived now in Braingle. Jake, I understand, is less than active. Don't know who the "draft-horses" (-hey, there's another one) are now.

it would make sense to create an archive and then for the purposes of new quizzes, consider those puzzles to be non-existent so it won't be so hard to come up with new quizzes and have to worry about duplicating a question on a quiz no one has looked at in 5+ years.

Rules:
1. must be two-word common phrase; one word of which is something from the "animal" kingdom.
2. If the new list contains ANYTHING previously listed the entire list is disqualified.
3. List must be in alphabetical order and numbered.

Sooo ...... I just checked my database and I have around thirty not yet listed. Such as .....

HABS !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
You are ABSOLUTELY IN-frackin' -freakin' -froken CREDIBLE !!!!!
(where do I send the check ????)
I gotta go do some family Mom's-day stuff but will be back later.
I have a sub on my database and can run your "master" list through and quite handily ascertain which "two-words" are still "eligible" - "eligible" meaning nobody tagged those, yet.
Later ............
THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU !!!

Absolutely none of these are eligible for the prize. This is a compilation of the lists created by you, Marc, and me. I just thought it would be easier for anyone who may want to give it a go, to be able to see at a glance what terms have and have not been used, rather than having to sift thorough multiple lists. A lot of people are lazy and want to put in as little effort as possible. This list allows them to do that
Marc is still the winner by far. If I had to lose, I'm glad it was to him, a fellow Canuck.

A couple more I thought of that may or may not work are:
Ant farm
Bird Dog (a football term or a buttock)
Busy Bee
buzzard bait (sick/dying animal)
cat call (whistles/comments from a man to an attractive woman)
calf slobber (meringue)
Charley Horse
Cold fish (distant and unfeeling person)
Cow Juice (milk)
Cow Patty (not edible)
dog it (be lazy)
dog leg (turn on a fairway)
duck out (leave quickly)
frog sticker (a pocket knife)
goose step (a type of military march)
Love Bug
monkey suit (tux)
old goat (very old person)
Silver Fox (older man)

My oh my .... oh my ... oh my .,.....
This is turning out to be so much fun I can hardly stand it !!!!!!!!!!!!
After our own family's Mom's day fun we came home to discover our next-door neighbour (a Thai restaurant)was having a gala in recognition of Mama's day .... so ............ (of course) ....
I promise ... promise .... promise ....
By tomorrow (am sometime) I will have a new list erected (based on HABS incredible effort) ... with everything updated.
I will simply created a new "dedicated" database for this puzzle only. Then any "new" efforts (such as those above from HABS & MarcM) can be quickly and easily input by me, checked, and transferred to here as a new "record" if needed.
Or ... something like that.
I know ... I know, it's nuts.
But ... some people (normal ones) collect stamps.
I collect words.
Later.

The challenge contest, which concludes at midnight (US-CST) tomorrow (May 13) will announce two winners; a "Best of Breed" and a "Best of Show". Suitable prizes will also accompany the award ceremony.
Currently, MarcM (see above) is a strong contender for - at least - one of the awards, having reported an unchallenged list of 100 Groupie #02 phrases for round one of the contest. Round two will begin at noon today and continue until termination at midnight tomorrow.
RULES
01. Submit any two-word common (idiomatic or colloquial) phrase that has - as one or both of its words - something from the animal kingdom.
02. Validity is on an "honor system". You decide if what you submit is suitably "idiomatic" or "colloquial". Don't ask me in advance. If you submit it I will accept it. Careful: - if you get too "sloppy" about it (and appear to be going for "points only") we will probably not like you as much
Examples: I (my opinion only) would or would not enter the following (and reasons why).
I would submit "white elephant" but not "white pig". The elephant one means (colloquial / idiomatic) something that is difficult to handle or take care of. The pig one simply describes the color of a pig.
I would submit "pig sty" or "pig pen" but would not submit "cattle pen". The "pig" ones imply dirty or unkempt habits, e.g. "his apartment is like a pig sty". A cattle pen is simply a pragmatic descriptor of a place where cattle are housed.
"Sea legs" but not "frog's legs". One implies physical (or otherwise) accommodation to a new or unusual routine. The other is just a part of a frog's anatomy (UNLESS, of course, the submitter is ready to claim it as a description of somebody ELSE's anatomy - your choice !!).

Most puns OK. I have (in other contests similar) submitted things like "missing lynx" and "under toad". Be careful, however; most people hate puns because they don't understand what's REALLY fun about them. My recommendation? If you are going to submit a list of ten or so new items, then a pun or two would be OK. Just don't go overboard or we'll get over bored.
I would submit "night owl" but not "barn owl". A "night owl" is somebody who can't sleep (like me) and a "barn owl" is just pragmatically and simply a non-scientific name for a type of real-bird owl.
03. Drop the hyphen if it's a "two-word" hyphenated and separate them if it's a "twoword" compound. That simplifies things, here, and - besides - this is not English grammar class.
04. I will maintain the "Master List" (so-titled). That's the list of submittals to-date and all NEW submittals MUST have phrases that are NOT on that most recent list.
05. Legit entries only. A "legit" entry is one that is NOT on the Master List and is NOT on any list submitted prior to the one you are NOW submitting.
06. Continue to alphabetize each of your submittals. NO NEED TO NUMBER THEM. Numbering / renumbering is too inconvenient.
DO, HOWEVER, give us the TOTAL number of EACH of your submittals.
07. Update as often as you wish. Just include your "new" ones into your most recent "old" list, resubmit as a "newer" list, and continue to alphabetize; NO NUMBERS.
08. Submittals OK after noon today US-CST.
Let me know - stat - anything TOO unclear about the above rules.
Revised Master List should be up around 110a (US-CST)
later ....

Well, it looks like the big GROUPIE CHALLENGE MATCH is pretty much a wash (is that lusty cheering I hear in the background from Babe, catmon, bestgirl, cutebug ....???.....)
At least, HABS and MarcM had a sterling go at it ....
AND ... I am also having computer problems (more cheering ... 'cmon ... you can do better than THAT) ...
I can get to the internet and Braingle but my database is frozen ....
HABS ... the "ducks" look just great.
(more on them later)
Lemme go do some repair work on the DB.

SOOOOOOOOOOO ... (in the meanwhile,,,)
SIDE BET !!!!!! SIDE BET !!!!!!
I'll wager a cherry lollipop against ANYBODY here (but especially the two Canucks**) that I can list MORE ....
animal-animal* 2-word "common" phrases ... than you.
*like ... (this is not one, just an example) .... "buffalo dog" = a dog trained to hunt buffalo ..
Just list the NUMBER of them you come up with. We'll settle the score later.
Right now (70 a US CST), I've got 3.
ta-ta (still working on DB ... maybe today ... maybe not)
**I looked it up ("Canuck") and it said it was often seen as a "derogatory" ....
OF COURSE IT IS !!!! (but I MIGHT apologize Later)

I am THOROUGHLY impressed ....
HABS reports (by private message) 20-25 two-word "animal-animal" common phrases.
That sure beats my SEVEN !!!!!!!!!!!!!
Can anybody out there beat HABS ???
Or you all too "chicken" to try??
I'll DL this "side bet" until Midnight Saturday, May 17 (US CST).
C'mon ... somebody try for the lollipop !!!

There are 176 two-word phrases on the above three lists; the sum total of contributions to the challenge contest by HABS & MarcM plus a few by me (as a non-contestant).
They can verify the exact number of their contributions if they wish but - by my count - MarcM had more than HABS.
Therefore (as sole judge-critic-secretary of this outfit) ....
I declare MarcM to be the winner of "Best Of Breed" and HABS to be the winner of "Best Of Show".
Their prizes are life memberships in:
(drum roll, please)
The League of Extraordinary Brainglers
(if any of you wish further info on how to join, send me a private message and I'll surely ignore it)

Here (below) is the remainder of my own "list" of two-word "animal" common phrases, none of which has been "claimed" by anybody as part of their submittal in this Challenge Contest NOR claimed (yet - this date) as part of their submittal in the cherry lollipop SIDE BET ("double animal" such as "buffalo dog").
This list (because of Braingle byte-count limitations per comment) is in two parts; A-I, J-Z.

OOOOPPPsssie .... be patient, folks.
Software won't let me enter ... "swear word" ... so I gotta go look for it.
Might take some time.
(is that more cheering I hear from the "bleachers crowd??)

OKKKKKKK .... (we try, again)
I still get an intercept message from the Braingle software - "Do not use swear words in comments" - but I have been unable to isolate the word(s) referred to. And (of course) the software won't ID the words.
I've removed about a half-dozen "likely" offenders (: animal l*ver, animal l*st, "bear" b*ck, cute ch*ck, (s)/duck a*/duck b*, h*rned toad, (h*rny) but I still get the Braingle intercept.
BB02
What I am attempting to do is give you MY list of "animal" two-word phrases that have not been tapped as responses to this contest.
All the other "identified" ones are on the "master list" above.
What I am going to attempt to do, here
