Take all sorrow out of life and you take away all richness, and depth, and tenderness. The capacity of sorrow belongs to our grandeur. It is the furnace that melts hearts together in love.

I don't think Dr. Hoo is that old, and liking classics has nothing to do with age. Some of the movies I enjoy the most are
- 12 Angry Men (1957).
- To Kill a Mockingbird (1962) - and Yes HP, I know it was based on a book, but this is one of the rare excretions and I didn't watch it by choice the first time, we watched it in English Lit.
-Dial M for Murder (1952)
- Sorry, Wrong Number (194

sorry I'm a bit late. Safety for kzmonopoly
I think there is at least some correlation between the age of the movies you like and your age. I doubt the younger (teenager or younger) are as inclined to like the classics as the older players. I'm not familiar with a handful of players here though so Im a bit in the dark
and I hate book worship , books are ok, the movies are often just as good if not better, at the very least they are simply a different form of entertainment based on the same subject matter.

At first I had to agree with KZ that the boss must be an older person due to seeing the classics...then I thought about what is a classic? It does imply something that was/is popular; but there are still many that are still being done even after 20 years.
Who's to say the boss didn't just see the musical last week that is deemed a classic and now is ready to see something new?

When someone says "the classics", I honestly believe they might be younger,,,,since musicals that are relatively recent will seem classic to. For example, I believe that songs by Queen are 'classic', whereas someone from an older generation would consider Frank Sinatra songs classic. Yet if you tune on the radio, you're more likely to hear Queen - recent classics are more likely to be heard.
Movie makers have completely run out of original ideas these days, so pretty much every movie now is based off a book, comic book, or a 'reboot' of some kind. I think it's fair when fans of the source material criticize movie makers when it rails so blatantly against whatever it was based off of, or if they leave important plot points out (often due to run time) that are important to the story. This is why I'm very excited that the upcoming miniseries 11/22/63 that is based on a Stephen King book will be a miniseries instead of a 2 hour movie it will be awesome

I think what a person likes is coloured at least in part to what they were exposed to as a child. The 6 year old I babysit would rather listen to KISS, Metallica, Ozzy, or the Beatles than Katy Perry or Justin Beiber. But that is what her mother and grandfather both listen to so she has heard it since she was an infant.
Looking back at the boss's answer, we may be misinterpreting it. (S)he says:
I've seen a couple of the classics, so I would rather see a new hit
Maybe, what (s)he is saying is that though (s)he has seen several classics, they were not enjoyed much so (s)he would rather try watching something new.

I know nothing about musicals...but I agree that what someone likes has little to do with age. Sure, older people may tend to like older things and younger people may tend to like newer things, simply because of what is available easily. But we can't base much on that really. Especially recently with the internet all sorts of old things get put up that anyone can have access to easily. Not to mention there are some people who are actually into old things.
always multitasking 24/7

Nope, not ancient to me. (Although I am 10 (11 in March)) By the way, I just now locked in my vote- forgot to do it last night And just for the record, I haven't seen many Broadway musicals at all.
Plus I just got the Jets or Sharks reference... xD the game happened at the same time as Carmen, so we got in traffic both ways.

I'm in the fifties also, but I don't feel old yet. Classics to me are the sound of music, Mary poppins, Jesus Christ superstar, Grease, etc. . . I don't think you should count yourself as seeing them - unless you have seen them live.
Switching to Hoo to get a majority further along.
In the voice of RGW4, my vote is locked in. And I most recently saw the New version of grease on FOX. I loved how they moved the indoor outdoor venue. But live, I recently saw Les Miserables done by a high school.

What game? This game? Or did the Sharks play the Jets recently? And does Carmen have to do with anything? The Hets and Sharks are the two gangs in "West Side Story".
And I've never seen a Broadway musical either.
I've seen plenty of musicals, just not on Broadway. Usually go to TO.

Don't think a clear is possible at this stage
I am in my mid thirties, in a few years I will probably be watching my little girl perform on stage, she loves being the centre of attention!
(put a pic up but it was huge!)
