Brain Teasers
Bully!
I have been a writer, rancher, war hero and a president known for my love of the great outdoors.
You can even see my face on Mt. Rushmore.
I first headed west, drawn by the hunting of buffalo on the northern plains.
I was determined to add it to my trophy collection; to which I took great pains.
First I was Assistant Secretary of the Navy.
Then, I helped organize and lead the First U.S. Volunteer Cavalry.
As president, I revived the Sherman Anti-Trust Act.
To break up big corporations and restore competition for little companies, that's a fact.
Some of my most important actions as president were in the areas of conservation.
I wanted to preserve our wilderness in the form of national parks for our nation.
I negotiated a settlement of the Russo-Japanese War, which was a feat of no small size.
As a result of this act, I was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize.
I was the first president to fly in an airplane to the envy of others.
I flew for four minutes in a plane built by the Wright Brothers.
Once, I took a drink of coffee and exclaimed, "That coffee tastes good, even to the last drop!"
From this, Maxwell House got their motto which put them on top.
Now it's time to give it a try...

Thanks. I'm glad this teaser was enjoyable. For not being big on history as a young kid, I sure include a lot of it in my teasers.
Great job Sarge!! Believe it or not, I got it after the first two lines, because I knew of his interest in the American West!! I'll have to look it up, but I think he was the first to set up a National Park!
Nope I'm wrong.... it was Grant.... and the park was Yellowstone.

I got it quickly, but it was a pleasure to read. Didn't Teddy "walk softly and carry a big stick?"
Thanks! You are right about the quote too. Theodore Roosevelt once said:
During TR's term as Governor of NY State he fought with the party bosses, particularly Boss Tom Platt regarding a political appointment. Roosevelt held out, although the boss threatened, to "ruin" him. In the end the boss gave in.
"Looking back upon his handling of the incident, Roosevelt thought he 'never saw a bluff carried more resolutely through to the final limit.' And writing to a friend a few days later, he observed: 'I have always been fond of the West African proverb: "Speak softly and carry a big stick; you will go far." ' "
