Language brain teasers are those that involve the English language. You need to think about and manipulate words and letters.

Puzzle ID:#46509
Fun:**** (3.19)
Difficulty:** (1.45)
Submitted By:MarcM1098Aca*****

When you curtail a word, you remove the last letter and still have a valid word. You will be given clues for the two words, longer word first.
Example: Begin -> Heavenly body
Answer: The words are Start and Star.

1. Bend out of shape -> Armed conflict
2. Muscle contraction -> Pack to capacity
3. Pass over; omit -> Glide on snow
4. Wet -> Large water barrier
5. Marsh; bog -> Moved through water
6. Waterproof canvas -> Pitch; oily residue
7. Cry; shed tears -> Very small
8. Assume a slouching posture; decrease suddenly -> Run-down part of a city

The words start with these letters:
1. W
2. C
3. S
4. D
5. S
6. T
7. W
8. S

omg, I've never been first! Cool!

I got all 16 words immediately, not so odd I guess, when you consider my "name"!! Enjoyable for those seconds!
Apr 12, 2010

pretty easy, except I needed the hint for #4
Apr 12, 2010

Nice and easy.
Apr 12, 2010

Lots of fun! I couldn't get the second one.
Apr 12, 2010

I love these! Even if I couldn't think of number 2 Great teaser!
Apr 12, 2010

Cool. Definitely on the easy side but that's fine for a Monday morning.
Apr 12, 2010

I missed cramp/cram, but the rest were easy even without the hint.
Apr 12, 2010

I loved it. I'm no good at the hard teasers this one is perfect.
Apr 12, 2010

I thought this was a very good teaser. Sorry, I don't have the patience.

tarp, contraction of tarpaulin?
Apr 12, 2013

I needed help on some, but got them all. Fun!
Apr 12, 2013

I didn't get all of them, but I like this type of puzzle - thanks for posting!
Apr 12, 2013

nice easy one.

This would have been a little more challenging if the letter to be dropped hadn't always been "p."

ukasiwicz, this is one in a series of the same type puzzle, each ending with a different letter. There are also some that you don't know the letter to be dropped. You can look those up under Marc's teasers. They are considerably more difficult.
Even though most of these puzzles are easy that does not take away from the enjoyment of them in my opinion. There would have been considerable time put into finding enough words that fit the requirement to make a decent teaser.
