Ring Around the Rosie
Logic-Grid
Logic Grid puzzles come with a handy interactive grid that will help you solve the puzzle based on the given clues.Logic-Grid
For her 60th birthday, Rosie's five children were planning a grand surprise party in her honor. This was not easy for any of her children since each of them lived in a different city in northern California, so to make it easier for themselves, they each had a different responsibility. Each person was put in charge of a different aspect of the party planning, including arranging for the gift the group had selected -- a mother's ring set with the birthstones of all five siblings (no two siblings have the same birthstone). From the information provided, determine the city in which each person lives and the aspect of the party (including the music) he or she was in charge of planning, as well as the birthstone of each of Rosie's children.
Person: Herbert, Irene, Kurt, Marie, Wendell
City: Crescent City, Quincy, Red Bluff, Sacramento, San Francisco
Aspect: Caterer, Gift, Hall, Invitations, Music
Birthstone: Amethyst, Aquamarine, Emerald, Peridot, Sapphire
1. Exactly four of Rosie's children -- the Sacramento resident, the one with the peridot birthstone, the one in charge of hiring a caterer, and the one whose birthstone is emerald -- are married.
2. Three siblings who brought their spouses to the party are the resident of Quincy, the one who lives in Red Bluff, and Irene.
3. Marie's birthstone isn't the sapphire.
4. Neither the Sacramento resident (whose birthstone isn't sapphire) nor Kurt (who was in charge of the gift) is the one whose birthstone is aquamarine (who is neither the resident of Crescent City nor the person who had the invitations printed).
5. The San Francisco resident (who isn't Wendell) isn't the sibling who reserved a hall for the party.
6. Neither Marie (who lives in Crescent City, and was not in charge of the invitations) nor the Quincy resident (whose birthstone isn't aquamarine) is the one with the peridot birthstone.

Sorry, I just could not get it, given the clues.... I must be losing it.....
I got stuck at one point and then it finally opened up for me. Tough one but good!
I got stuck with Kurt and Wendell, where they lived and what their responsibilities were. I never did get it figured out. Entertaining, though!
tough, but then I tried to do it at work, so there you go. I had trouble with kurt and wendal too.
That was tough! Great fun!!!!
I agree with HogwartsGirl...
Tough, man! But I figured it out! Ha! :ha:

Could not get this one. I have a feeling the married versus unmarried sets were critical, but just couldn't put it together.
This was a cute idea, and I enjoyed that part, but I think I would have to have been at the party to solve this! But, I will keep trying because of the previous comments.
WOW, great one, brain hurts, keep them coming
I liked it a lot! It took me twenty minutes to solve and I had to use paper. The set within a set was nice! I scored it very high. Keep em coming.
No matter what I tried, I couldn't get this one. It was way hard
I can't get the grid to come up. Somethng about pop-up blockers but I changed it to allow them. HELP.
Never mind. I finally got the grid and then I lost everything I put on it. I'm glad I'm not listed as the brain.
I finally got it! Hooray! This was a very tough struggle for me I hope Rosie has many more birthdays!

Wow, brutal. It is solvable, but very difficult. One of the most satisfying I've done yet. Keep 'em coming!
Very tough. It took quite a while to think through the married/single clues but once you got that you were done. Nice Work.
I enjoyed this! I made a second grid for the 4 who didn't embrace singledom [hehe], and it finally came together. Thanks.
Not bad...I didn't find it as difficult as some, but I put my eye on the married sets early since I figured it wouldn't have been mentioned were it not critical. Fun!
WOW! I did get it figured out. The married vs nonmarried does help to figure out this puzzle. Very fun and challenging. Keep trying if you didn't get it.
took me two tries, but I finally got it -- great job!!
EXCELLENT! This was very difficult, and time consuming, but well worth the effort. Kudos to you!
wow i thought it was just me until i read the other comments ... i will try this some other time
What a delightfully challenging puzzle! Wow, the 1st 2 clues were the key to the solution. Please keep these coming!
Loved It!! Made you think but didn't require guessing. Thanks!
(I especially liked your town choices)

Really well written - I'm sorry the person who wrote this doesn't seem to be active anymore. I'd love to see more.
Figured out from the cities which one was not married and the rest fell in place.
Very well done and worded perfectly.

Very well worded teaser, thank you!! I know it's been awhile, but I hope you still see these... Great job
lol, I should have read the comments before mine, we said the same things, obviously I agree. I wish there were more like this as well.
Interesting twist on those first two clues - I've seen quite a few doing the 'the five kids are ...' sort of thing, but having only 4 out of 5 in one clue and then 3 out of those 4 in the second made for an interesting challenge.
