Logic Grid puzzles come with a handy interactive grid that will help you solve the puzzle based on the given clues.Logic-Grid
The Smith family was getting very excited for Christmas Eve. Because they have some "package shakers" in their family (people who like trying to figure out what they are getting by shaking their gift), the family has decided to hold off on adding gift tags until the giving begins. Unfortunately, they have forgotten what package goes to which family member! There are only 5 packages under their tree, and each person will receive one gift. They are each wrapped in different paper as well as different color ribbon. Help the Smiths sort out their gifts!!!
One of the men gave a gift to their sister and the other gave one to their son. Neither of them used the Snowflake or Bell wrapping paper because they are too "girly."
No gift was wrapped in paper and ribbon of the same color. Else loved the gift she received, which was wrapped in her favorite wrapping paper, the white snowmen, and a ribbon that was not silver or gold.
The girl who received the package with green ribbon did not receive the bracelet or book. The package with red ribbon was not for the man who gave a bowling ball or bicycle.
The five family members were the one who gave to mother, the one who gave a bowling ball, the one who used silver ribbon, the one who used the blue snowflake wrapping paper, and Lauren.
Else didn't give a gift to her mother because she lives 3 states away. She also didn't give a gift to her husband, Russ, because they had just recently celebrated their anniversary.
Ned didn't want a bicycle, so he received something else. Neither daughter received a gift with a green ribbon.
Santa lost his shape when one family member tried to wrap a gift that was spherical. The book was wrapped in paper that did not have snow on it.
Gift givers: Cindy, Ned, Russ, Lauren, Else

Wrapping Paper: Blue Snowflakes, Red Santas, Green Trees, White Snowmen, Gold Bells
Ribbon Color: Blue, Red, Green, Silver, Gold
Gift: Bicycle, Book, Building Blocks, Bracelet, Bowling Ball

cute!
Extremely well designed puzzle. It was excruciating keeping my mind on who was giving and who was receiving. Great job.
However, I think the third clue is worded in such a way that you have to assume the one male gave one of the gifts and the other gave the other gift. The way I read it, is that it is possible that one of them gave one of the gifts, not necessarily each giving one or the other.

Very difficult, I kept getting confused with if the gift they recieved was wrapped in that paper or the gift they gave!!
Great teaser, keep them coming!

OK, help me... I can't figure out if the names across the top (Mom, sister, etc) are the givers or the getters or if I am matching the relationship with what their name is. Maybe include a hint to help with this part of the set up...
I agree. It seems as if there should be another category. Who is mom, sister, etc. I have tried this puzzle on numerous times. I finally gave up. : (
Excellently difficult!! I had a hard time keeping the givers and receivers separate. Had to pay close attention and use paper. I had to start over twice, and still managed to get 3 of the ribbon colors mixed up. I'm giving my brain a break, but will be back to try it again! Thanks, Mocha!!
Thanks for all the wonderful comments! This is only my second teaser, so its nice to have such feedback. I have added the category classifications as well as a hint, hopefully those will help those of you who are still struggling.
Great Teaser!
Excellent! I needed the hint but finally got it!
1. Have to agree with yankeejimg about the wording in clue #3. (suggestion: The package with red ribbon was not for the men who gave a bowling ball and a bicycle.)
2. Also the wording in clue #1 is incorrect - the word 'their' implies that the men have a son together. (suggestion: One of the men gave a gift to his sister and the other gave one to his son.)
Otherwise, great puzzle.

this one was way too hard for me
Felt there were more clues needed and some clarity of the clues. I couldn't figure the sister and daughter along with some of the ribbons.
I was thoroughly confused for a while there! haha.. The hardest part for me was trying to figure out who each character was (mom, dad, etc..) And once I had my answers, I was convinced that I was wrong...but I actually got them all right! It was VERY well thought out.. Congrats on a great teaser!!
I agree with Yankeejimg about the 3rd clue. It is impossible to solve the puzzle without making an assumption that is not justified by the grammar of the statement. It should be, "The package with red ribbon was not for the man who gave a bowling ball or the one who gave the bicycle." I don't see how the puzzle is solvable without this change.
A fun puzzle, but others are correct about the wording of the 3rd clue. It does not necessarily imply that one man gave the bowling ball and the other gave the bicycle, and this information is necessary to solve the puzzle. Also, in the same clue, it refers to the mother (the one who received the package with the green ribbon) as a "girl". This seems a bit inappropriate and misleading, especially since both the father and the son are referred to as "men". Until I got to the later clue saying neither daughter had received a gift with green ribbon, I assumed that "girl" must mean a child. (And then the poor mother gets building blocks for a gift!)
Thanks for making the puzzle, what everyone else said about wording , but it wasn't that hard , just try both men giving the two gifts mentioned, and it works out. It was tricky keeping the giving and getting straight, but that added to the fun. I enjoyed it! Thanks again
I agree with the consensus that the third clue was a bit vague, but crucial to success. I had worked out the givers and receivers, but had given up as I couldn't assign the gifts. I felt I was missing something, so I read the comments to find that the third clue meant that the two men in some order gave the bicycle and the ball, once I understood that, I had no problem.
Still, it kept me occupied for a bit, Thank you.
