I don't get it. "champ" and "tramp" ?? i've heard other versions of this that made more sense.

This is an old, old riddle and it is used by Bilbo Baggins in J.R.R. Tolkien's The Hobbit.

Different versions either use "Thirty White Horses" or "Twenty White Horses"... which is less accurate but scans better.

The 20 White Horses version is a nursery rhyme about baby teeth.
