Why Can't I Join This Club?
My friend Leslie asked my sister, Eloise, to join a club she had formed. When I asked her if I could join she said "Sorry, Jane, but you can't join my club". My brothers Bill and Bob and my cousin Ellie are also members of Leslie's exclusive club. Why won't she let me join?
Hint
You can only join Leslie's club if you have a specific type of name.Answer
Leslie has formed a club whose members have names that can be spelled upside down with a calculator - For example, 317537 (Leslie) and 31773 (Ellie). So my name, Jane, excludes me!Hide Hint Show Hint Hide Answer Show Answer

Also could be all members have a repeating letter in their name. Jane does not.
I also thought it had to do with the first letters in each name having a pair.

More situation than riddle. I also went with the repeated letter thing. Then I looked at the answer. LOVE the answer!
If Eli had been a member of the club, I may have thought about it longer and found another solution, maybe the right one.
I ate the red herring.

You really need to add some examples for which the first letter of the name is not duplicated in elsewhere in the name, since that's a more likely criteria than yours.
Also, some hint it really needed, if you're going to use such an obscure reason. Perhaps a comment about how "calculating" Leslie is, or some such, but that maybe she has her morals upside-down.
