Well 5 firings all of which we anticipated with out list last round, We actually had 6 names on the list as probable firings and one of the people listed was not fired. The only post pratikk was
buu441 really knows that!!

Buu responded
oye pratik. round 1 vote kiya ki nahi? vote nahi dalne se tu fired.

Not sure what Buu was talking about, but Pratikk was responding to Buu's previous comment that he knew what Jarmihi had said to us about delaying the round. The whole exchange seems odd to me. Pratikk did not state a vote for anyone so either
a) Voted without comment which is useless to any of us OR
b) Did not post who he was voting for because he did not vote because he is the rat or boss.

My guess is he is the rat and Buu is the boss. That is how Buu woul "know" that Jar was delaying the round and how Pratikk would know that Buu "really knows".
Votoing BUU

I did say I was delaying the game. Twice.
I should note that I typically delay the start of a round by a varying amount of time...it could be five minutes after the Boss submits the memo, it could be 20 hours later. This is to protect the Boss' identity.

Man, I'm so sorry for being basically Inactive last round. I promise to do better this time!

It looks like we would have been well covered by Mandatories last round, and I'm kicking myself for not coming back to join the majority on Kajish. Just a few more votes on him would have gotten us the 50% of votes + Boss/Rat cover, no? And sadly with all of those mandies, we can't even partially clear anyone based on firings, either.

I'm terrible at reading between the lines of Memos and Psych answers; I can't tell if the Boss is young/old, male/female, etc. The Boss is keeping things pretty general.

I have a random safety vote on JJPutz. My goal this round is to 1) Aid in getting us the +5 bonus Attendance points and 2) Get a few more points so I can start buying Divination Cards. (jarmihi: this may already have been asked/answered, but with the Divination Cards: are those hints private, or are they shared with the group? I guess I'm confused by the "cannot be combined with others' cards" bit.)

The clues will be shared with the group. The more Cards you spend at once, the "easier" the clue will be. You can't combine cards with other people. For instance, if you have two and Jarmihi has two, you can't combine them to have four. Hope that clears things up a bit.

This is the post to which I am referring. The one to which Buu responded "I know that" - my point is that until this post you had not mentioned the reason for the delay. Just suggesting that perhaps the reason Buu knew the delay was you and not the boss, is because he knew that he (as boss) had already sent in the memo so we could not be waiting for the memo to be sent.

Re: HABS' post - That's an interesting observation you make. The phrasing of pratikk's comment to buu does make it sound like they have "insider information." Pratikk is new to Braingle, so I could see his possibly slipping up. Also, if he forgot to vote he should be a mandie; the fact that he's still here strengthens HABS' thought of him being the Rat. Hmm.

I'm strongly considering changing my vote to help on the buu end of things. It's a pretty good lead that HABS found.

Ah yes, thank you! So by turning in 4 of my own cards in at once, I get an easier clue; that would be the bonus to saving them up before turning them in? Makes sense.

Yeah he is. Maybe if someone were to buy a golden quill, then we might be able to write a question the boss can't give a general answer to.

For now I'll just put in a safety vote. Maybe I'll be able to figure something out when we start getting those divination cards

I'm also looking at the mod edit to my post laying out my thinking. (I quote it above) Jarmihi points out that HE did tell us he was delaying the game, almost as if in an attempt to explain away Buu knowing why the game was delayed. Not saying this means anything or that he is doing it, but I have played in games before in which the mod jumps in to help by explaining away a theory to stop votes going a certain way, to keep the game going longer than a round or two. Again, I am NOT suggesting Jar is doing this, just that I have seen it done in the past, otherwise what was the point o his post? Why not let the game follow its natural course?

On the other hand, then I'm "confusing people." Can't have it both ways. Quite the dilemma!

I agree with yuffie. That exchange between buu and pratikk last round was really weird. Pratikk almost seemed to be saying, "You know who we are waiting on, because you are the boss". I would consider a majority on buu this round. Also, the memo makes me think the boss's first language is not English, which would probably describe buu.

Edit: reading more posts, voting buu.

Wow, really nice catch, HABS! It's not a solid lead, but it's more to go off of than anything the Boss has said in the memo/psych answer.

It is possible Buu has played in a Jarmihi-modded game before and thus knows that Jar purposefully delays the start of each round but that doesn't discredit what you said about Buu.

I googled "kiya ki nahi" and I got a "Lord of Pestilence" T-Shirt ad on Facebook Both Kiya Ki Nahi and nahi dalne bring up a lot of websites with Hindi - Buu has an India flag and Pratikk only joined Braingle earlier this month, so it's possible they're friends in the Real World. That could mean it's just an inside joke between them (I couldn't get a translation) but it does seem rather odd...

I will vote for Buu to try for a majority.

I don't think it being New Year's will affect things too much. As pointed out most parties etc don't get going until late. Hubby and i are going out to dinner then coming home so I'll be back round 9-10 for sure. And a lot of our players are too young to be going out. Not to mention it is already past midnight where our Boss lives ;)

I put the phrase through Google Translate and was unable to get anything, but the same phrase back and "Filipino detected". Bing netted the same results but claimed the phrase was Indonesian.

Yes JJ I meant out to clubs or whatever. Though it sounds like you normally celebrate with family. We've already been out and are home now.
"that language" that is funny - you do know that there are 100s of regional languages in India right? Most Indian people speak almost fluent English though as it is the "Official Language" and is taught in school from a young age. Jar has already said that we cannot pool points.

Well let's see what happens with the Buu vote. Hopefully we got the boss.

Now that we have a majority, there isnt much to say.

@habs: i have played in the store games before, thats why i said i know he delays the round. and by inactivity, i should already be cleared. i was away on vacation for the past week, and got back online just 50 mins before round 1 ended.
but since the majority is on me, guess you can do with one more cleared player in the game.

That's a login time. Please refrain from discussing them in the game. Thank you!

about the memo. i love the answer. definitely the thing i would invent as well.

and about my conversation with pratik. he's my school mate. the language i used was hindi. sorry about that. i just asked him whether he had voted that round or not. i think he is the rat/boss too, now that he hasnt been fired even after not stating a vote in round 1. and he is a newb. must be his 2nd or 3rd game.

21kaldridge21 and pratikk still need to post so that we can all get 5 points.

I'm also thinking Pratikk but mostly because he seems to be a little odd: the only thing he posted in Round 1 was "buu441 really knows that!!! " (regarding the delayed round starts) which was posted AFTER the round ended; it's possible he had nothing constructive to add but you'd think someone who's new to Braingle would be excited to play & therefore be overly vocal. That's just personal opinion, but he still didn't state whom he was voting for and he hasn't posted in this round at all, despite that being the challenge. The object of this specific game is to gain points by posting & being active - the only reason to not want points would be if you already know the answer (i.e. if He's the boss). Out of the 10 remaining players, he's the only one who isn't on the scoreboard (meaning he's got less than 2 points). It's not solid proof, but it certainly adds to the suspicion for me...

Keeping my vote on Buu441 b/c I believe in finding answers but I'm starting to think Pratikk is definitely boss/rat...

I don't see how that question helps us. As I pointed out before English is the official language of India so almost everyone there speaks it, and we cannot assume that just because someone lives in N. America that English is their first language (over half this country speaks French as a first language). And if the boss is not who we are thinking and is one of the rest of us, chances are no one knows what other languages we speak. So those answers won't help us either.
Not sure what to ask, but there has to be something more telling.

And Yuff, you are right he should have had time to post at some point during the day. He is in IST (Indian Standard Time) which is 10.5 hrs ahead of EST. Even if he was busy during the New Years time period, by the time the rest of us were heading out to do our celebrating, it was late morning, early afternoon there.
I think that P is def a good bet for boss now.

I think rather than getting and answer for "is English your 1st language" JJ meant "Do you speak anything other than English"? Obviously Buu441 and Pratikk speak Hindi and I'm guessing that HABS, you speak a little French. Spanish is a very popular 2nd language in America, so it gives us an idea in that sense. But I do agree with you - anyone can learn ANY language, despite where they live. So, just because the boss says s/he speaks "Hindi" does not mean it's Pratikk. No one else has to tell the truth, so no matter what the Boss' answer to that would be, it won't really help us.

Not sure what to ask, but there has to be something more telling.

Well, if nothing is off limits than how about "What Country do you live in" (Although most of us are American) or "What is your occupation/ School grade"? You could ask "What is your time zone" since we all had to answer it in Round 0. But again, most of us are EST so it won't narrow it down by too many...

I think that P is def a good bet for boss now.

Yeah, I do too. If he's not the boss, he's definitely the Rat - that's the only reason to not play as a team.

We obviously all speak English and yes I as a Canadian can speak French (since all packaging here is bilingual it is impossible not to know some) I also took German in high school I also know a lot of medical and legal Latin. I have a lot of friends who being only 2nd or 3rd generation Canadians also speak the language of their parents/grandparents and learned that before (or in conjunction with) English. I used to babysit a 6 year old who spoke Russian, Spanish, French and English. She could also understand Romanian but chose to respond to anyone speaking to her in either French or English.
Obviously since I am not the one with the Golden Quill, I don't et te deciding vote, I just don't think it tells us much.

If pressed I'd say he is the boss not the rat. I don't see him being active enough to be doing the rat's job. I think he'd have been fired by now for abandoning his job. (or however it is worded in the rules).

My question will be the round 4 psych question

How about asking how many games of wtb they have played in or when did they join Braingle.

That would probably make the most sense unless jarmihi has any rule against that.

Sorry I didn't participate much this round :/ knew new years was going to be pretty busy. All Canadians know some French.

Cloud nine gets all the publicity, but cloud eight actually is cheaper, less crowded, and has a better view.

Uh, limitations are ad hoc...that is, if I find a question to be unfair I will ask for another one. There isn't a hard rule here. Because of WTB Rules, the Boss must answer the psych question truthfully. Questions that only have one possible answer are iffy at best. Go for it, but be prepared to rewrite it.

I typically attempt to ask questions that have a good chance at revealing a part of the Boss' person or character, so as to better be able to identify the Boss. Usually, however, the Boss beats me at our little game.

Yes buu, we do. He is not saying that all Canadians speak French (far from it) but that we all know some. You are FORCED to take it in school - in Ontario from Grade 2 or 3 until grade 9 (not sure about other provinces but mot likely similar amount of time). Beyond that since all packaging is bilingual you at see it every day hundreds of times a day. I can for instance tell you that the French term for a 12 SHEET cross-cut paper shredder is "DÉCHIQUETEUR À COUPE EN FRAGMENTS DE 12 FEUILLES". How do I know that? Not because I know French but because the box is sitting by my feet.

I have no idea of what could be asked that doesn't paint the boss into a corner but tells us something. When I mod, I hate comin up with questions for that very reason.

Now I have to figure out what I'm supposed to be thinking.

Edit: Figured it out.

Happy ever after in the marketplace, Desmond lets the children lend a hand. Molly stays at home and does her pretty face, and in the evening she's the singer with the band!
